this was an example of the BSA being used as a well-known example of an antigay organization, hardly good PR for a youth group Anit-gay is nor good PR for a youth group? Maybe the BSA should sign up LAMBADA as a sponsor! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -

I left out what was irrelevant. To who? You? Certainly not to someone who wanted the whole story. At some point, that link won't be valid & the only thing people will know is what you posted, Merlyn. How's that Little League post coming along? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -

I do know why you posted Merlyn. I was just trying to point out to others that you left a lot out, as you admitted you did. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -

I thought we were discussing a movie not fish! Although I do like herring! Your only point in posting only part of the article was to point out how the BSA feels about gay leaders. They don't like them. They don't want them as leaders nor do they have to accept them as leaders. If your true intentions were to point out something amiss you would of posted on a Little League forum about how the movie depicts them illegally discriminating & called them names! But no! You really don't care about that! So how's that Little League post coming? Here's an address http://www.littleleague.org/ I'm sure you can navigate around the site & find a place to air your grievances. Nice list! Thanks! Got any non-atheist or non-gay people who side with you? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -

Oh well, I just thought it was worth commenting on that the Boy Scouts are now being depicted as anti-gay bigots in a mainstream movie, and that's pretty typical of how a lot of people see the Boy Scouts now. And the Little League isn't depicted that way????? Who beside you see the Boy Scout as bigots? Names, please. If this is such an important part of the movie, why did no one else but a pro-gay article pick up on it? How's that post on the Little League forum coming, Merlyn? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -

Silly me! I forgot how hard it is for Merlyn to follow things! The movie isn't political! Never said it was! The review is biased! Does that make it political? Nope! Just biased! So sorry I didn't give ya a road map so you could follow along! My bad! Everyone & every organization discriminates to some extent. Some legal & some illegal! Big whoop! Hey Merlyn, have ya posted yer disdain about the illegal Little League discrimination on the appropriate site? If not, why not? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -

When a publication is News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media what would you expect, Merlyn? An unbiased review? I doubt it. And again, when in doubt, berate! How about that legal discrimination! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -
Why would the SM need to participate. It isn't his/her EBOR, it's the Scouts. The SM can sit in if he/she wishes but there is no need to participate even if asked. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Ed, you don't even know what "relevant" means. This is "Issues and Politics" in a scouting forum, so a new movie that depicts the prejudice that gays face from the Boy Scouts is relevant to this forum. If that was the entire context of the movie I would agree but it isn't. Little League bigotry against gays is NOT relevant to this forum. It would be relevant in a similar forum on politics & Little League, but that isn't what this particular forum is about. And have you been to a Little League forum to register your disdain? Your objections are beyond stupid; When in doubt, berate. I notice YOU didn't mention that the filmmakers consulted with GLAAD on the movie -- why not? Your posting of half-truths makes your credibility go down the toilet, doesn't it? Because I didn't know they did. Thanks for pointing that out. Oh yeah, you forgot to mention that while the BSA (a private organization with membership criteria) might discriminate, they are not doing anything illegal. Or isn't that relevant either? Yeah comedies can have political statements. That would be known as satire. The ones you named are classics. Do all comedies make political statements? Nope. Is this movie a satire of how the BSA doesn't have to legally allow gays as members? Don't think so! And since I haven't seen the movie, only the trailers (which don't have this scene), I would think the mentioning of the Boy Scouts had no political motive what so ever. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -

acco40, I think it's telling that the Boy Scouts are now firmly associated with discrimination against gays. Ed seems to think this is part of a good reputation. Ed also seems to think that not mentioning irrelevant parts of a movie is somehow dishonest (while having public schools practice religious discrimination is just fine). What it is saying is nothing. It's a comedy movie. No political statement is being made. The only one who is trying to make this political is Merlyn! I think just mentioning that in the movie the irrelevant depiction of the Boy Scouts not wanting gay leaders & not mentioning the other irrelevant people & groups who feel the same way is nothing more than pushing ones own agenda! Why not point out the little league who illegally discriminated against Sandler in the movie (the BSA by not allowing gays is not illegally discriminating)? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -

Not a problem acco! Stating half the facts is a great method to use to get people to think your way. The only problem is when those you told half truths to realize what they were told were half truths the teller of the half truths credibility goes down the toilet! Then everything the teller tells is suspect. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -

No, Merlyn, my objection is your lack of divulging all the fact of the fictional movie to further your slanted view of the BSA. And unfavorable, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori) -

My point you seemed to have missed is it's not only the BSA who doesn't look favorably on homosexuality. It is the majority of the American public. And by you only pointing out the BSA from the article is irresponsible on your part. Either tell is all or nothing at all. Push your agenda elsewhere. The BSA is a private organization who, according to the SCOTUS, can set it's own membership rules. You might not like that but it's the law. And all the Little League has to do is say "your services are no longer needed". Nothing more. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori) -

And reportedly, he no longer wanted to coach little league, no one wants pick-up basketball with him nor do his fellow firefighters want to share an open shower with him. Post it all or post nothing Merlyn. The BSA isn't the only group who thinks homosexuality is wrong! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -
CA_Scouter, Handled exceptionally well! Kudos to the PLC and all involved with this difficult decision. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

It is always refreshing to hear so many positives about a week at camp! Thanks for sharing! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

It does make a difference how & where they got the clays. These things aren't just laying around waiting to be found! Either someone removed them from the range & these boys found them in which case they shoulda been returned to the range or they removed them from the range. A Scout is trustworthy. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
-
Yeah they found them scattered across the range! What were they doing on the range? At our summer camp, if you are on the rifle or shotgun or archery range without permission, you go home. No questions asked. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

I'm with Gonzo on this. I took WB in 1995 & it was structured the same way Gonzo described it. It seems the course has been made more of a management course with a Scouting feel. The cost has always been high. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

What a mess! I would agree that all involved in the bathroom incident should be sent home since that seemed to be what set off the knife throwing incident. But since camp is over now, sending them home isn't an option. Maybe a short suspension from all Troop & Patrol activities would be appropriate for all but S since he was sent home from camp. Good luck & keep us informed as to the outcome! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Not baiting, Vicki. You brought it up! Asking a Scout a question about how he completed a requirement isn't retesting. The purpose of a BOR for advancement is to ensure the Scout has completed the requirements for rank. If the BOR can't ask questions about the requirements then there might as well not be a BOR. End the rank advancement with the Scoutmaster Conference. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
-
And we are not asking the Scout about specific requirements because .....................? I agree that no retesting should be done but asking questions like "Tell us how you'd did (fill in the blank) for (fill in the blank)?" isn't retesting. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
