  1. Being heterosexual, I'm not sure Gern. When did you chose?
  2. Aquila, I don't believe homosexuals are born that way. It's a choice.
  3. Local option is nothing more than the BSA tossing the Law & Oath out the window.
  4. Trevorum, So the membership requirements should change. Why? Should they include gays and atheists? Women & girls? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  5. I don't really think John Lennon was promoting anything but peace with that song.
  6. The BSA isn't a species, it's an organization so that usual comparison doesn't apply. Why should the BSA compromise it's membership standards? Because the ACLU says it should? Rubbish! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  7. Why should the BSA abandon their stance on homosexuality? Because everyone else has? Because times have changed? Because a kid would be upset because his gay parents aren't allowed to be members because they don't meet the criteria? Where does it say everyone gets to do everything they want? The BSA should stick to it's guns. In the end, they will be a stronger organization. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  8. Yup the GSUSA caved to the PC crowd and redefined their oath. The BSA didn't & now they are under attacks for being a discriminatory group that refuses to change. Which organization would you rather belong to - one that caves into pressure or one that stands it's ground for what it feels is for the greater good? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  9. Ivory soap is one of the best soaps to use while camping.
  10. Sorry to say but you are probably better off without the parents who left! Too bad the boys are the ones that really suffer. And what's worse is the parents never seem to understand this. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  11. Well, Merlyn, that's not what you posted. Thanks for clearing that up, though. And actually, this is a game! You field whatever you think you can defend! If you can't defend it, you don't field it! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  12. I don't agree that the BSA was always a private organization; not with public schools running them. Public schools never ran the BSA. They have had BSA units chartered to public schools but public schools never ran the BSA. This is not a factual statement. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  13. So saying "begrudgingly agree" without knowing that to be a fact and "as long as they're willing to lie and pretend" without knowing that's what the poster meant is different? Let's define is! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  14. You aren't voicing your opinion, you are lying by misrepresenting my opinion and pretending that you can read my mind, instead of what I have plainly written in this forum. And these posts aren't doing the same thing? How nice you begrudgingly agree that fair and equal treatment is fair & equal, even though you don't agree with it. That's mighty white of you. So you don't mind admitting atheists as long as they're willing to lie and pretend to believe in a god. Well, I think that's as good an illustration why public schools have no business chartering packs. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  15. The BSA went to a lot of trouble to define itself as a private, discriminatory, religious organization, instead of what many people assumed it to be - a public accommodation. Ya know what happens when you assume. The BSA went through a lot of trouble to ensure the membership criteria that has been in place was adhered to. You might not like that criteria but it is what it is. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  16. I would wonder what the troop scribe and troop quartermaster would think about 2 or 3 other kids running around wearing his patch. I don't think Scribe & QM are designated as Troop or Patrol positions. A Patrol Leader isn't. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  17. Hunt, the city never changed the deal. The lease has always said that either side can terminate the lease by giving one year's notice. And I would say the BSA "changed the deal" by going to the supreme court to define itself as a private religious organization. The BSA went to court to defend it's right as a private organization to restrict it's membership. No change in the deal at all. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  18. You know the Scouter who started this thread was asking for advice on how to clean his item, not to be skewered by those who hold his choice of equipment in disdain. And the answer I gave was how we cleaned ours. No disdain, just fact. Whoever suggested Bar Keepers Friend is a smart person! This stuff is great! And it does work on cast! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  19. Interesting. Maybe Philly should take a closer look at all the lease deals it has out there to make sure they are kicking everyone to the curb who discriminates! Bet a lot of vacant space open up! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  20. Why shouldn't the BSA be given special lease deals similar to other non-profits? To not allow this would be discrimination. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  21. They could if you would like them to and I really don't see why they shouldn't. We have had this discussion before regarding Patrol POR's vs Troop POR's. Patrol POR's can be great entry-level POR's for younger Scouts. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  22. Atheists don't have special right. Neither do Christians. But it seems atheists think they do. I wonder how many atheists don't work on Christmas or Easter or any other religious holiday? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  23. If the Scout has a signed merit badge card for cooking before he starts the 1st Class requirement, then why shouldn't they count for both? And visa versa like LisaBob posted? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  24. The way we cleaned our aluminum ovens was donate them to a charity & get cast iron ovens.
  25. I would agree with Barry that the signature of the SM is approval to start work on the MB, but not approval of the MBC. That is not the SM's call. The MBC the SM puts on the blue card should already be approved by the DAC. The SM is indicating he is approving the Scout's use of this counselor. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
