Two Changes: How would you give input?
evmori replied to John-in-KC's topic in Open Discussion - Program
For adults, I would make training mandatory. This would help eliminate those adults who don't want to commit the time to learn the program they have signed up to help lead. This should also help with the quality of training. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -
Thanks for the update! Great to here everything worked out.

Maybe break up councils by counties. Then break districts by school districts or municipalities. The school district I live in is a combination of three municipalities. If districts were divided by school districts, this could give more of a sense of community to the unit & local laws would apply more evenly if a council borders were the same as the county borders. What's the big deal about giving your name & location? -
If when patrols come together they form a troop, why would two patrols not elect a senior patrol leader? Maybe because the boys see no need for it. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Done bunches of these at summer camp! We would get a bunch of old flags ready for destruction. We would then cut them down so all the Scout & leaders had a piece. We would then sing America (or other patriotic song) read Remember Me? and ask that each person place, not throw their piece into the campfire in silence. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Is it possible to get past something not being mentioned in the opening post & discuss the opening post so as not to damage the thread?

This isn't a bad idea. Just one that would take some time to think through. Maybe leave the Councils alone & eliminate the boundaries from the Districts? That way there is some local muckity mucks to sorta keep a handle on things. Camporees could be done by Council instead of District. There could be four in a given month & the size could be controlled by only allowing xx number of Troops to attend and each Troop could only attend one! Could work! Would make things interesting! Maybe better! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

It would be a hoot if someone leases the building then sub-lets it to the BSA for a buck!

Ya better make sure those spoof knots are done by a BSA licensed shop or the patch police will haul you away (This message has been edited by evmori)

I would agree BadenP. The older versions on the Boy Scout handbook, while not as well organized, contained much more needed information than the current edition. Man, If I used that much nasty language, my mom woulda washed my mouth out with soap! Also, didn't know using someone's name in a post was derogatory & demeaning. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

How do we know these 12,000 Scouters we are to imagine the damage they are doing are not new to the Scouting program & have yet to attend training? We don't. And are they really doing any damage? And having 99% of Scouters following the program is excellent! Ya can't blame the 29% of the participants of a training program for not following the program if the program they were taught in training was incorrect! Sound like the focus should be on the trainers, not the participants! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)

COMPLAINTS: Vanishing and Moving Messages
evmori replied to Beavah's topic in Forum Support & Announcements
If the mods delete or edit a post, the poster should be at least given the courtesy of a PM to let them know why. And the deleting & editing should be the same regardless of the poster, which now it isn't. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -
Please forgive us SctDad. We tend to get that way when we are reminded we are not doing things correctly. The Patch Place is an excellent resource. I used them when I was a CM eons ago & it looks like they have only improved. Check with a local sewing shop. Someone there might be able to give you some ideas. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

I just shot coffee outta my nose!

Once he adds text that connects the fluer-de-lis with BSA scouting, words such as Cub Scout Pack, and others, it no longer becomes ageneric symbol, it becomes the protected emblem of the BSA and the manufacturer would need to be a licensed vendor. Horse puckey! The fleur-de-lis is not trademarked! Never has been! Neither are the words pack, troop, klondike, pinewood, etc!

Congrats! A great achievement!

"I KNOW NUTHINK!" would avoid a slander lawsuit too. Only if Nuthink is the one you are talking about. Two rudes don't make a right?

Did anyone ever answer the original question posted in this thread or was that one of those rhetorical questions?

And just because there is nothing that encourages false reporting doesn't mean it can't happen. Not knowing the facts of a situation can lead to false reporting. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

I agree with Bob that child abuse is a horrible crime & the cost of prosecuting child abusers should not make any difference. Anyone that knowingly abuses a child should, well, you know. I have heard similar things about parents who use spanking as a disciplinary method that are afraid they will be reported as child abusers when they aren't. A parent should be allowed to spank their child if the child misbehaves. Heck, when I was growing up & I stepped out of line, I would get a whack and I wasn't abused as a child. Child abuse is a heinous thing but sometime a difficult thing to know is happening. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Actually, Beav, I think FScouter was referring to my post where I said proof is needed. YP is nothing more than knowing the boys in your unit & using common sense. Knowing when & who to report abuse, neglect, or other types of child endangerment is the tricky part with the trickiest part being when to report. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

I would be units charted by "The Friends of XXXX" are a more involved CO than most traditional CO's. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Scouting for Food and Chartered Organization

We have done this for years. We would pass out bags after the service one Sunday & collect them the next Sunday before the service. All the food stayed in the church food bank. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
