Reheated coffee is just as bad as instant! No worse!
-
He doesn't have to do them for rank, but will for Swimming MB.
-
so no matter what rank they are as of 1st jan 2008 they have to do the additonal requirements. Not if the Scout has completed a rank prior to 1/1/2008 or is Star or higher. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

I seriously doubt if the public will be misled if a Scout wears his uniform or Troop t-shirt to sell hoagies. And how what would they be misled about?

No instant here! Either the Coleman dripper or my trusty $35 BSA perker! I prefer the dripper, but beggars can't be choosers!

I think the concern comes because the feeling is the only reason the boy is even pursuing Eagle is because he will get his license if he "gets" Eagle. If it wasn't for the license motivation, the boy might not be in Scouts. Hence, how much effort will he actually put forth? The upside is he is in Scouts & hopefully he will realize what he is into & step up to the plate & earn Eagle because he realizes license or not, this is a great thing. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Coleman makes a drip coffee maker for your camp stove! Ends that boiled taste~

Yep except the approval comes from the council executive board.

5. If a commercial product is to be sold, will it be sold on its own merits and without reference to the needs of Scouting? All commercial products must sell on their own merits, not the benefit received by the Boy Scouts. The principle of value received is critical in choosing what to sell. 6. If a commercial product is to be sold, will the fund-raising activity comply with BSA policy on wearing the uniform? The official uniform is intended to be worn primarily for use in connection with Scouting activities. However, council executive boards may approve use of the uniform for any fund-raising activity. I guess technically, #5 would prevent the wearing of a Troop t-shirt or even mentioning the reason you are selling something. But, if you can get the necessary approval, you would be able to wear the official uniform while performing a unit fundraiser. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Man are we splitting hairs! A unit fundraiser (hoagie sale, candy sale, etc.) is to raise money for the unit. The unit being a Troop or Pack or Ship or Crew. All of the participants are BSA members. While raising the money will probably not benefit the district or council, the money is being raised for Scouting at the unit level. I agree the official uniform shouldn't be worn, but see nothing wrong with wearing a unit t-shirt. Do we really think that when that boy knocks on the door & ask Mrs Jones if she wants to buy some candy & she asks who are you selling it for the boy will say "I can't tell you." or do you think he will say "Boy Scout Troop 22 ma'am. We are selling candy to help the boys in our Troop to help oay for camp & replace some old gear with new gear." Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Ed, reality in my neck of the woods is that we do report AOL but that it would be unheard of for council to verify or check it. It might not be verified, LisaBob, but doing the right thing is part of our job. Sure a Webelos can hang with the Pack for that additional 6 months, but why? He can't earn anything & will probably get bored to tears. He should move on up to a Troop & get acclimated! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

The correct patch placement is inside the Boy Scout Handbook. It's also in the Insignia Guide & probably tons of other places. GW has given you the correct info fastbow.

Does BSA trust us to deliver the Program?
evmori replied to Its Me's topic in Open Discussion - Program
A little harsh, maybe. The need to get boys from joining a BSA Troop to 1st Class in 12-14 months does seem to be something National thinks is important. What I feel is more important is to make sure the Scouts learn the basic skills at their own pace. Not all kids learn at the same rate & to infer they do is inaccurate. If it's 12-14 months great! If not, it's no big deal. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -
If anyone is paying attention, there is a matter of time which can't be changed LongHaul!

A SM Conference is nothing more than a chat with the Scout about his experience in Scouting so far, It isn't a pass fail requirement. All the Scout is required to do is participate.
-
And the funds colud very well be for Scouting. The Scout's unit! That's Scouting.
-
He can wear his Troop t-shirt if they have them.

Whether the Pack wants to award the AOL to someone that does not qualify for it is up to the Pack. No it isn't up to the Pack. You can't award something that hasn't been earned! The rule is 11 OR out of the 5th grade. If it was whichever came second then it would have to read 11 years old AND out of the 5th Grade. It is whichever comes 1st. And & Or make no difference. But if he is registered, he is registered until the unit recharters again. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

No biggie!

"camporee" style activity for jackknives?
evmori replied to AnneinMpls's topic in Open Discussion - Program
As long as safety is followed & monitored closely, I would have no problem with this. However, there is a potential for a serious injury & this should be discussed with each unit prior to competing in this event. Good point GW. We have used knives in many camporee events. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -
Well, since the family is asking for the younger brother to earn his AOL early, tell them it is a violation of BSA policy to award an award that hasn't been completely earned. They should be able to understand that. If not, use the analogy of a car loan. You can't get the title until you make all the payments! The same thing applies to the AOL, You can't get the award until you complete all the requirements! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

OK. We'll take the sweaters, but we don't want the umbrella's!
-
What do the boys want? If they want to move up together, great! But if it is strictly a convenience for mom & dad, then to me, that's the wrong reason. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
-
Sweaters? Next it will be umbrellas!
-
He can stay but once he earns his AOL, he is done with Cub Advancement. I sorta wonder what the motivation is for both to advance together? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
