  1. And who really gives a horses patoot if he's a democrat or republican or whig or tory or whatever! Primarily, he's a sleazebag regardless of his political affiliation!
  2. Did anyone ask the committee member with the limited vocabulary & vision why? And why does this one person wield so much influence? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  3. I think most of the larger councils would be able to pull this off OGE. I am pretty sure mine could. The smaller councils might have to buddy up with another council, though. I also feel this would better serve each individual program than trying to have a one-size-fits-all course. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  4. You are correct OGE. Like I said, I took the old course when it was for Boy Scouts only. Bob's post & my last one crossed. His was not there when I posted. I tend to agree with Kudu. It seems the BSA has taken a great advanced training course for Boy Scouts & dumbed it down to cover Cubs & Venturing along with Boy Scouts. But not Sea Scouts? Sea Scouts have their own course? So why can't Cubs & Venturing? Sometimes trying to have an all-inclusive training course accomplishes much less. I took the old course (NE-V-120). Loved it! It was the best BSA training course I ever took. Why? It was specific to what I was doing in Scouting. And I learned tons, took tons back & met tons of great people! And the name is Ed not "A poster". Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  5. Eamonn, I know that. I was merely quoting your pal from the Midwest. But thanks for pointing that out to others who might not have known. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  6. 1) The "Eight Methods of Scouting" are not discussed mainly because Wood Badge is not about any single scouting program,. The Scouting methods are not the same in all programs, and not every scouter who attends Wood badge is involed in every program. In the BSA they all are the same. 4) Wood Badge is not about Boy Scouting and so the purpose of patrols that is mention is that of organizing the training group into smaller units for organizational and program management purposes. Then why do you have to be a BSA member or BSA professional to take the course? 5) The Patrol Method should serve the Leadership Development Method, Is not discussed in Wood Badge primarily because it is not a part of Wood Badge or any BSA training syllabus. Then how is a newby to learn about this method? On the street??? 12) Meals prepared by professional food service contractors is done for the first weekend of the program because Wood Badge is not for Troop Leaders it is for ANY leader in the BSA and not every leader needs to know how to cook outdoors for their role in scouting. I took the old course & if I remember correctly, we cooked all our own meals. Not every leader needs to learn how to cook outdoors, but it doesn't hurt. It helps build comradeship. 15) A "Method" is less important than an "Aim," "Mission," or "Vision Statement." Is this why the Methods aren't taught in any training course? Interesting stuff. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  7. Dunno GW. I was wondering the same thing!
  8. evmori said, "Not all kids learn at the same rate & to infer they do is inaccurate. If it's 12-14 months great! If not, it's no big deal." This is true. Not all kids learn at the same rate but if you really think about the requirements that need to be completed in order for a boy to reach First Class, if he can't do it in 12-14 months, it's more of a reflection on the program the troop is offering, not the boy. If the Troop is offering the Scouts everything they need to advance, it is up to the Scouts to take advantage of what is offered. Remember, it is their advancement, not ours. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  9. I sorta thought Soil & Water Conservation & Environmental Science were part of most summer camps already?
  10. GW, I think we do that to be politically correct and as far as I'm concerned, being politically correct is usually wrong. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  11. I love scotch! JW Black or a good single malt. but never with Scouts!
  12. I like hazelnut. I don't use cream. The only time any part of an egg goes with coffee is when it's on a plate with bacon & home fries, never in the pot.
  13. I see what you are talking about Gern but don't understand the concern. It's not like they are stumping for votes although I'm sure this little stunt won't hurt when the time comes. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  14. Maybe a little over reaction but still valid. While swimming is an Eagle required MB, there is are alternates so there is a possibility these basic water skills will never be learned in Boy Scouts by a Scout. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  15. So does the Pack have a rules for the Pinewood that state no pre-built cars are to be used & a new car must be used each year? If not, no cheating is occurring. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  16. (This message has been edited by a staff member.)
  17. So if the gym is reserved & those who it is reserved for aren't using it, why is it reserved?
  18. IF the money earning application is approved for affiliating your self with scouting then you HAVE permission from the council to do so. If you do not file, or are not approved, then it is not allowed for you to wear the uniform. It is the council that gets to determine if they wish to take the liability exposure not the unit or a unit volunteer who decides. Yes if there is no application there is no Council approval. That has never been an issue. The Council Executive Committee gives approval for wearing the uniform, not the Money-Unit Earning Application. If the Council is included in the lawsuit, the courts will decide if the Council is liable, not the Council. sigh...just because you choose to take the money that is raised and give it to an organization does not make the organization liable for the injury. True, but they will more than likely named in the lawsuit. Who wants pie! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  19. Are Muslim women allowed to do this type of activity? It strikes me that when Americans go to other countries we are supposed to fit into their society but when people from other countries come to America, they don't. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  20. You make a good point, Bob, but if your scenario happens, an attorney will find out the hoagies sold were to benefit a BSA unit & the BSA will be sued. And since the Money-Unit Earning Application was approved by the council, the BSA could be liable even if no indication was given at the time of sale it was to benefit a BSA unit. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  21. If the council exec committee approved the hoagie sale, you would still be in the same boat. If someone is gonna sue, they are gonna sue regardless!
  22. No Starbuck's for me. That stuff tastes burnt! I'm a Bruegger's man when I don't make my own.
  23. Now that's a stretch! And if someone drops the overpriced tin of popcorn on their foot they will sue the BSA!
