  1. This should be done! It's amazing it hasn't been with any consistency.
  2. I heard that e-bay didn't allow the sale of the corn flake because it was a violation of policy --- no food sales on E-bay. Guess I can't sell my toenail clippings, then.
  3. If you are sending e-mails & making phone calls & have a newsletter in circulation, it sounds like the problem lies with the parents not your communication skills! Ya can lead those ponies to the trough but you can't make them stick their heads in! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  4. I would say the helping with Sunday school fits the bill. So would doing a service project at a Scout camp. An Eagle project can't be done at or for the BSA, but service projects for all other ranks can. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  5. Wonder if I could sell my toenail clippings on EBay?
  6. So the issue is not enough units support FOS or the popcorn sale. That's no surprise. FOS hits up the volunteers! The FOS folks should focus on the people in the community! And popcorn is overpriced! A unit can get more bang for their buck with many other fundraisers. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  7. Communications. There is no way it can be completed at camp.
  8. Calico makes a great point. And comparing Boy Scout popcorn to Girl Scout cookies is like comparing a Maybach to a Chevy! One is, while good, high priced and the other, while good, is more affordable. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  9. Considering the requirement in question is Identify or show evidence of at least ten kinds of wild animals (birds, mammals, reptiles, fish, mollusks) found in your community. all the Scout must do is tell the SM he completed the requirement. There is nothing in the requirement requiring any type of documentation. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  10. If someone refuses to be trained, I would gladly return their registration fee. They are virtually useless!
  11. 100 days/night = 100 days/night. Makes no difference how many separate occasions. If could be 100 or 1! Don't over think it! It isn't that hard!
  12. Any amount BSA saves by using a less expensive source helps to offset cost increases elsewhere. If the cost savings were reflected in the sale price, some other price increase might be necessary, or a service cutback . Possiblities might be an increase in the annual registration fee, or Boys' Life subscription rate, or fewer pages in Scouter magazine, or eliminating retail the retail Scout Shops, or ??? What increased costs elsewhere? Sure gas is skyrocketing but the high priced uniform was high priced when gas wasn't so that argument doesn't hold water. Does anyone know if the Supply Division is part of the non-profit? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  13. What goes up Must come down Spinnin' wheel Got to go round.
  14. I'm not John nor have I played him on TV, but my next statement would be "Tell us how you live into the reverent point of the Scout Law"
  15. vol_scouter, Quite a sordid view you have there! My parents were not raised on a farm. In fact, none of my friends (and there were lots) while I was growing up had parents who were raised on a farm. All were city or suburban raised. And we were outside all the time. Yeah we are a little sports crazy. But Sports in general teaches to win at all costs and take drugs to help one do so. These are not good values. to me is not accurate. Just because there have been a rash or professionals who have done this, doesn't mean that is what sports teaches. I have coached basketball on many different levels & I can tell you none of what you stated is even discussed. Our kids need our protection, but that doesn't mean we need to watch them 24/7. They need to try things on their own. If they don't they won't learn. They also need to learn how to fight their own battles & stand up for themselves & social interaction skills. Sitting in front of a video game screen all day is great for hand-eye coordination, but nothing else. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  16. You can, I think, still buy BSA uniforms from Penny's catalog & Dunham's.
  17. Fred has a good point. It seems to error off & you never know if your changes will take. It needs a fixin'!
  18. Well, Gern, do you think that question is appropriate? Would there be a reason to ask a question like that? I think it all depends on the Eagle candidate. Actually, NeilLup, if a Scout is asked at a BOR "Do you believe in God?" and answers "No, I don;t believe there is any God." then it is perfectly within the BOR's right to deny the Scout advancement. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  19. Since a Scout is to be living the Oath & Law in his everyday life, the context is wide open.
  20. They ask pointed questions and the only acceptable answer to them to "Do you believe in God" is "I accept Jesus Christ as my personal savior." Then they don't understand the question they are asking.
  21. It's 9 o'clock on a Saturday Regular crowd shuffles in There's an old man sittin' next to me Makin' love to his tonic and gin. Sing it!
  22. It seems today kids have no interest or knowledge of how to plan their own activities. It's done for them. Their parents sign them up for activities, take them & pick them up. If it isn't planned for them, they don't do it. Their social skills are so limited they can't! No pick-up football, no calling your buddies to go sledding at the park, no dropping over to a friends house because you are bored. And we wonder why???? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
