  1. All right FScouter! No more big werds! It makes the post too hard t'understand!
  2. I dunno if it is encouraged or approved by the BSA but I do know it can happen & if a boy can handle it, I say let him try. Heck, we as adults wear a bunch of different hats at the same time.
  3. You can cook anything outdoors you can cook indoors.
  4. The quality of training will vary from district to district. But I do feel training should be required to be an adult leader in the BSA and it should be required by the BSA. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  5. My concern is more how a boy can simultaneously and successfully carryout two difficult positions of responsibility. Who cares! That has nothing to do with the question that started this thread. Two shirts would work. A little pricey, though. One shirt & two patches with Velcro would be a more affordable method. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  6. And there was one question begging to be asked that no one mentioned: why is Margaret's son holding down two PORs at the same time? Who cares. The question & subject of the thread wasn't why is he holding down two POR's but can he wear both patches. We all tend to want to give too much advise at times. I'm just as bad as everyone else! We want to be helpful and we end up starting debates & picking nits! Sometimes we just need to give the simple answer & get out of the way! I'm off nit hunting! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  7. What does the Eagle Co-Ordinator do? Micro manage the Scouts Eagle project. Useless position in my opinion.
  8. When my son was in my Troop, I did not sign-off on any of his merit badges even though I was registered for most of the required ones. Reason - Adult Association. This is something I feel all kids need. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  9. Why not suspend all the Scouts in a leadership position? Sounds like you need to make a point. I agree with Stosh about emergency procedures being taught ahead of time. I also understand there are probably boys who are new to the unit who haven't learned them yet but the SPL & PL's should have been the one to take the lead & it sounds like they didn't. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  10. FScouter makes a valid point! It seems parents want to be overly involved in everything their boys are doing! A little over the top if you ask me!
  11. The Eagle boards in my district are scheduled as needed which is usually weekly. When all the paperwork is turned over to the DAC, the EBOR is scheduled. Usually, a Scout waits no longer than a week. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  12. I know I read the entire book. And I'd bet most of us do! I was pointing out that 1) It is up to the Scoutmaster to decided whether or not to approved the service hours. 2) It is up to the Scoutmaster to decided when that approval will take place - before or after. Yeah John, I would hope there would be some consistency. And just as a note, when I was a Scoutmaster, the approval took place before the service hours were completed. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  13. Thanks John! Exactly what I was going to post. Work at a Scout camp is for the Scouting community. You might be correct about the Sunday school thing, Avid. That is your prerogative as the SM. Your approval is required. Now here's the kicker - When is it required? Before or after the service project is completed? This should be interesting! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  14. All points of the Scout Law should be treated equally. Thrifty the same a kind. Obedient the same as trustworthy. Reverent the same as brave. This has nothing to do with the DRP and trying to make it so is just flaming on! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  15. Phrase it any way you want! Asking is a Scout believes in God is not crossing the line.(This message has been edited by evmori)
  16. Asking a Scout if he believes in God (god for some) is not asking a Scout to define God or interpret God's rules.
  17. If you are going to sign up to work with kids why would you refuse to have a background check done? If you answer is ID theft, I'd bet there is something else. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Who's merit badge is it? The Scout fills out all the information he can (name, address, merit badge) and the Scoutmaster adds the MB counselor's info. The MB counselor then completes his part & the SM completes his/her final part prior to turning it over to the Advancement Chair. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  19. How does the God question cross the line? It my opinion, it doesn't. Asking a Scout if he believes in God is a valid question. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  20. scoutingagain got it right! Any adult, registered or non-registered parent may observe, but it is up to the SPL as to who participates. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
