  1. You are so correct Gern. I have led many an inter-faith service and many Christian services for Scouts. We had a few camporees that had individual Christian, Catholic and Jewish services. We also announce at registration of the camporee and at the SPL meetings and at the leader meeting what type(s) of services we will be holding. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  2. The parent's choice? Interesting. I always thought it was a Pack decision.
  3. I got junk in my profile! I've had problems with my profile similar to what Fred posted. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't!
  4. Agree that a call out is a good precaution for preventing the one-in-a-million risk of a broken collar bone from a tap out but I don't see where these ceremonies or any of the other activities mentioned by GW really constitute subjecting someone to unnecessary meaningless or disagreeable tasks, abuse, harassment, humiliation, or ridicule--especially for the entertainment of others. Tossing rocks in buckets, minimal food, not allowed to talk, wear an arrow around your neck all day. Yep those are things I do each & every day of my life!
  5. I know we have looked at this before but couldn't the OA tap out be considered hazing?
  6. Styles on these forums vary from poster to poster! Some inflame other intentionally, others inflame without realizing they do & others are just there! It seems to be the ones who are unaware they inflame others that cause most of the problems. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  7. Since snipes are native to New Zealand, there wouldn't be any state laws that would apply, OGE. Now the nearest relative to the snipe is the American woodcock which is common to the eastern USA. You would have to look up the regulations for those individual states to get your answer. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  8. John, We have had people in these forums claim Scout Spirit doesn't include Troop meetings & other Scouting activities (which we are now unsure how to identify). They felt Scout Spirit was everyday life away from Scouting! Just the opposite of what is being discussed in this thread! To me, it is everyday all day regardless of what you are doing. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  9. Youre requiring that in addition to the requirements set forth by BSA and administered by the local council through the merit badge dean, counselors must also meet the Ed Mori requirements, and that if the counselor does not meet your unspecified requirements, he may not be a counselor. I am not adding to the requirements, FScouter. The SM is to provide the Scout with the MB counselor information. Says so in the SM Handbook & the Boy Scout Handbook (wording a little different in each). If I know a MB counselor is a "rubber stamp" counselor, why would I send a Scout to them? What would the Scout learn beside how to skirt the requirements? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  10. Local speed limits are politically driven! There are roads in my area that are 25 mph that are nearly impossible to drive at 25 mph. A lot of the BSA rules & regs are clear. Many aren't and there are tons that are worded so poorly they are impossible to interpret. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  11. I dunno. What requirement would that be adding/subtracting from, FScouter?
  12. OK so the Lone Scout goes though the necessities set by the National Executive board & heads out on a camping trip. Is it a Scouting activity? Why would he wear his uniform? Because he wants to? He likes to? Why not? Let us not forget the primary use of the uniform is in connection with Scouting activities. Apparently this isn't the only use of the uniform since primary & only do not mean the same thing. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  13. Well, to get his requirements completed, a Lone Scout would have to complete a lot of them by himself or with people that are not members of the BSA. According to Bob, that would mean he could never wear his uniform since he might be camping with the church youth group or identifying his plants & animals with his science class. So if this is the case, does the Lone Scout just toss the uniform method in the dumper? And what if he is going camping with his church youth group and he files a tour permit for himself? That would mean he is camping as a Scouting activity! Grab the uniform! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  14. FScouter & OGE, Yes I would give there name to the proper people to have them removed as MB counselors. But until I was sure that was done, I would not let a Scout use them. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  15. If the scout wants to work with a specific approved counselor there is no reason for him not to. I would agree unless you know this counselor is a "rubber stamp" counselor.
  16. You missed my point, Bob. If a Scout is a Lone Scout, he has no unit, hence the name. So any activity the Lone Scout does doesn't count since it doesn't fit your interpretation of Scouting activity? How would he advance? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  17. If that's what he does John, it's time to pull a Ted Koppel & tell him "You didn't answer my question, sir". because that isn't an answer to the question. Giving his committee the "duty and authority to review and approve ELPs before they begin" doesn't mean they can require anything they want! They still have to follow the requirements set for the ELSP and requiring what they do, in my opinion, would be adding to the requirements. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Thanks for the invite, John. Just ask your DAC to show you where in the requirements what they want is stated. Bet they him & haw around & give ya few guffaws! Bet they don't find anything either. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  19. Wouldn't the Lone Scout be considered an individual Scouting activity? In your example, Bob, the landscaping project, providing it was developed by the Scout, belongs to the Scout. He is preforming it for the park. And since he is a Scout, it would be a Scouting activity. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  20. I made the mistake of making eye contact with our District Commissioner!
  21. Nice idea but don't see the need. The list of Scouts who have earned all the MB's is probably small & not growing rapidly. Anyone can make a badge to be worn on a BSA uniform. Being able to wear that badge on a BSA uniform is up to the BSA! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  22. When I was a SM, 100% of our direct contact leaders were trained within one year of signing up. If they didn't attend training, they were not on our next charter renewal. Basic training for the position you sign up for should be required. You complete your application, get a training schedule, attend training & your application is processed. Don't attend training, your application get put in File 13. If trained leaders was as important as people say it is, training should be required. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  23. Gotta agree with Bob on this! It seems DAC's want Eagle projects to meet their standards that they feel are important. 100 page write-up, minimum of 100 hours of work, gotta wear the uniform, not allowed to wear the uniform, project must be typed, etc. If they would just stick to the requirements laid out by National, there would be no problem! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  24. Well, doesn't the Scout get the MB counselor information from his SM? And the SM can give the Scout a counselor other than his parents.
  25. WHAT COMPLETE AND UTTER POPPYCOCK!!! Why do you say that Eamonn?
