I dunno. I really don't see the need to send out e-mails to all the parents. At our summer camp, parents night is Wednesday. And it usually rains on Wednesday. If mom & dad need to know what's going on 'mon up to camp on Wednesday night & find out! Otherwise, you will see your son when you pick him up on Saturday.

The SM conference is really nothing more than a chat with a Scout about his experiences to date in the unit, what he likes/dislikes about Scouting, how things are going in his life, etc. Open-ended questions are the best way to get the conversation going. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Well, the requirement states you may use a week of long term camp toward the requirement. The wording was recently changed to include "he 20 days and 20 nights must be at a designated Scouting activity or event." to, in my opinion, eliminate counting family & backyard camping. It's always better to err on the side of caution but when you are required to divulge your SSN to get a loan or credit card or become a member of an organization then you give it out! If you don't you don't get the credit card or the loan or the opportunity to become a member of an organization. You have no clue how secure any computer is! Yet when you apply for a loan you willingly divulge your SSN number! Why? Because it's a requirement! It's a requirement for the BSA, too! There are many groups & organizations who are prime for attacks from hackers & ID thieves! The BSA might be one of the. So might the company you work for. The last time that I applied for credit at a store, I typed my own SSN into a console and the clerk never saw it. And ya don't think it's on the credit report in your file? And how about when you get a loan at a bank or finance company or car dealer?

GW, No I haven't. I know what charges I have made on my cards. If I see one that I don't know about, I contact the card company & have it investigated. Since I have been in the lending industry for almost 30 years, I keep tabs on my credit. The only thing that ever popped up on my credit report that wasn't mine was a GMAC car loan that was reported in error. Acid Test, I am no troll. Never have been. Never will be. I've be in these forums for a long time. I've been involved in Scouting for over 20 years! What is childness? Maybe thinking someone who won't divulge their SSN number has something to hide isn't accurate, but when you go to buy that new flat screen on credit, I'll bet ya don't blink when the clerk at Best Buy asks for your SSN to process the application. Did you divulge your SSN on the Scout application, Acid Test?

Since your ID has been stolen, why won't you try to do something to try to prevent this from happening again. Once shame on them! Twice shame on me! Three times! Well, need I say more.

You claim to be worried about this happening but will not take the necessary steps to help prevent it from happening other then refusing to divulge your SSN to the BSA so you can be registered. If you are so concerned about someone stealing your ID then you should take the necessary steps to help prevent it! And until you do, shouting the sky is falling serves no purpose. I think we are getting POR's confused with being registered. There is a difference. According to the BSA, being registered = active. Now a POR requires a boy to "serve actively" which is different. To be active in your unit requires you are registered. To successfully complete a POR you must be active & actually do something. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
