vol_scouter, Two checks in a short period of time will not adversely affect ones credit rating. Actually, a million checks in a short period of time will not adversely affect ones credit rating. It will affect ones credit score. Your credit rating is determined by how you pay your bills. Now if there were ONLY two checks on her credit & one was the lending institution she was attempting to borrow the money from, then there is something else going on with here credit. Since she was turned down, she is entitled to a free credit report so she may review her credit rating. Based on what you have posted, there is something else adversely affecting her credit rating that has nothing to do with the BSA check. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Every organization has stuff like this. It helps promote the organization and also raises a little cash. I see nothing wrong!

All this discussion about tenting patrols 1/4 of a mile apart & the differences of the current Wood Badge course from the good Wood Badge course are wonderful, but what do they have to do with servant leadership?
-
As you know, checks on your credit rating decrease the rating. A check here and there will not adversely affect your credit rating. What could is a lot of checks in a short period of time. Her interest rate increased a small amount due to the check. I doubt that one credit check raised her rate. A couple things probably happened. There was either a lot of checks on her credit in a short period or there was some derogatory credit that showed up or both. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

If these boy actually lied, then string 'em up! Otherwise, get off their case & leave them alone! From what we know, none of them answered the question about spitting off the lighthouse no when asked. Yep guy thing!

Good insight GW. Is this a new ASM? Who advised you? Questions must be answered.

"And do these people know for a fact the problems they are having getting a loan were cause by the BSA?" Ev, you're beginning to sound like Bob White. This is sorta like the topic in the other thread where parents were told by the unit committee that the summer camp they attend is banning all t-shirts other than BSA related & plain ones and stating this is BSA policy without knowing if it is or not! If ya don't know for sure, tossing out accusations is just plain wrong! No "Chicken in white tights" here! I'm a talon you, I'm an Eagle!

Persons on a different list server claims that their credit was damaged while they were applying for a loan. The BSA is not being Trustworthy! And do these people know for a fact the problems they are having getting a loan were cause by the BSA?

show me where committee members are even encouraged to wear a uniform. Show me where they aren't. The BOR wearing their uniforms would be that setting the example stuff!
-
I agree with GW on this. It doesn't seem like anyone lied therefore nothing should be done.
-
if they don't allow you to wear it at school and you would not wear it to church, then don't wear it in Scouting. Excellent guideline!

OK Acid Test! That's at least the 2nd time you've posted that! I'm beginning to wonder, well ........................ How is that wrong on any level? Do you want your son spending weekends with some whack job that slipped through the crack because the background check that was done wasn't comprehensive? And when this whack job ruins your son's life & your family's life, who ya gonna sue? The BSA. Why? They didn't check the whack job out thoroughly enough. I realize some people will slip through the crack no matter how comprehensive the background check. If someone wants to steal you identity, they will. And not giving your SSN to the BSA so they can do background checks is like shouting the sky is falling! And it isn't! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

I would have to say then that if the board wants to insist on a Scout wearing the uniform at a BOR, the board must also wear the uniform. I would agree 100%
-
If you are spending time with my son on a regular basis, I would want as thorough of a check done as possible. Why let someone slip through the cracks because their fingerprints aren't on file but their SSN will tell you they are bad news? That makes no sense.(This message has been edited by evmori)

If you remove the ignore, how would the troublemakers know when they are slipping in their duties? So now I'm a trouble maker! Great!
-
I don't actually watch much TV except for sports. And if you really think the FBI doesn't have your SSN then I got a bridge to sell ya! Fingerprints are great to identify someone. But not everyone's are on file to be checked! And usually if they are, the reason isn't a good one!
-
Get your track shoes on pack! And they're off ................... I never use the ignore feature. I think it should be removed!
-
Would that mean plain color t-shirts with nothing on them are not allowed? I agree there are certain t-shirts that aren't appropriate anywhere, but this does seem like a camp policy, not National. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

I don't feel bad Trev! I just wonder how many of those 10 are still active on the board!
-
The FBI does background checks without asking for your SSN number because they can get it without asking! Do you really think they won't do a thorough check?
-
So your solution would be to hold the BOR even though you know that the Scout is perfectly capable of wearing a complete and proper uniform? That really sends good message, doesn't it? If this is the only thing holding the Scout back, yes. Have the BOR talk to the Scout about wearing his uniform & the Scoutmaster should do the same. Holding a boy back from advancing ONLY for not wearing his uniform to a BOR is wrong. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Would the 10 posters who have me on ignore please ID yourselves.

We had a Scout who was stalled at 1st Class for about six months because of his uniform. His father bought him a new shirt and said, "Bring me the patches that you need to go on the shirt and I'll sew them on for you." The Scout never did that. BOR is scheduled and he shows up with bare shirt so gets sent home. That repeated itself numerous times. His father thought that it was hilarious because the boy would never come home from a BOR and say, "Dad, can you sew these patches on so I can do my BOR next week?" Now this is just wrong! If this was the only thing holding the Scout back from having his BOR, there is a big problem in the unit!

I've heard a statistic used about Cub Scouting retention - that 75% that started as Tigers are lost by the time they get to Webelos. I don't know what can be done about this. Could be these kids are burned out with arts & crafts by then! Maybe it's time to get the WEBELOS program more into the outdoors & away from the little kid stuff. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -
10! Cool! Wonder who they are? Pucker up baby!
