Don't know that I would have passed him without apologizing to the SM first. Other than that, I think the situation was handled rather well!

forum moderation at request of fscouter

This is no surprise and this has been going on for some time. Let's look at some posts: "Gee Brian ..." What's with this "brian" stuff? Some kind of private joke or personal poke? It does seem rather infantile, else what is your point?? -------------------------------------------------------------------- Bob, and you were doing such a good job ignoring Ed, but finally succumbed. -------------------------------------------------------------------- "... just as FScouter suggests." Beavah, you have a bad habit of rewriting what other folks post; apparently you believe that bolsters your case. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Such sagacious counsel Ed. What to do is what were debating. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh please Ed, spare us. Give it up already. Get a LIFE man! And Bob, if you respond to Ed's prattling, you're just as irrelevant. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Damn animals. We set aside a perfectly good reservation for them. Why can't they stay there and leave us alone? -------------------------------------------------------------------- All of the above were posted by FScouter in a variety of threads. The last one is an example of a poor language choice. It seems we are to be moderated for similar posts but the moderator doing the moderation obviously feels it's OK to NOT follow the guidelines everyone else must follow! Guess some are more equal than others! The posts that were deleted that started this topic should have been left alone! The moderation is not being done consistently across the board. Some posters are given less latitude than others and the moderator in question doesn't follow the guidelines he enforces! I'll bet this post gets whacked in whole or part. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -
Good night Eddie~

Isn't the 9th Circuit the one in San Fransisco that continually comes up with the unusual interpretations of just about everything? ACLU = American Communist Lawyers Union

How many threads does it take you two to argue the same thing? And some of the questions posed are never answered!

Interesting! Wonder what he didn't do?

Your SSN has been the main ID number for decades! It wasn't until the last 10 years ID theft became a problem! Colleges & insurance companies still use it, they just give you another ID number which is usually an algorithm of your SSN!
-
Thank you Horizon for elaborating on the point I have been trying to get across! The check needs to be thorough and to do that, a SSN is necessary. If ya don't want to give it out, ya can't be a leader! And ya can't work at Acid Test's POE, either. Ed "I'm Not a Troll" Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Guess I gotta ask again. If a unit has an adult removed from their roster, doesn't this remove them as a BSA member?
-
Got a question. If an adult is removed (properly, of course) from a unit's charter, then unless they would be listed as a member at large in their district/council wouldn't this also remove their BSA membership? Otherwise, what would they be a member of? That's two questions. Sorry. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Pot meet kettle! Kettle shake hands with pot!

It's defacto purpose now is a national identity number. And do ya think that maybe that is why the BSA is asking for it? Huh?
-
My employer has my SSN. Why did you give your employer your SSN? Maybe because it was required to get your current job?
-
Gravy???? How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?
-
Ed, what credit criteria would BSA apply to deny an application? If they don't have one, why do the check? I don't know, Gern. You would have to ask the BSA that question.
-
Good point Gern. And come charter time, don't recharter this individual.
-
Gern, Nothing wrong with doing a consumer and criminal check. It's called being thorough. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Well, I tried! Who wants pie?

This is supposed to be a check to see if we are "safe" to have around children. What does it matter if I've declared bankruptcy or if I've been late with my mortgage payment six times in the past year. Well, it could lead to character issues. If you filed bankruptcy or you don't pay your bills, how reliable will you be with the Scouts in your charge? These finding could also indicate other problems such as a gambling or alcohol problem. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

If your New York Council was "receptive to equally effective solutions rather than being entrenched in a single position". If "When in New York, my council successfully appealed my position and I became a leader". Then you have already HAD a background check run on you by the BSA - and passed. There is no need for you to have ANOTHER one run in this new Council. It would seem that the New York council might not have done any type of check therefore one must be done. Now that's scary!

Ah well. I guess the best thing to do is ignore those who try to help but we don't like what they say because they don't agree with us! This will be deleted!

That would make #11 and another response. I do understand people being wary of releasing too much personal information, but when it is required, either you release it or you don't get to play! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

vol_scouter, Sorry I misunderstood regarding the affect you mentioned. I still doubt that two credit checks in a short period of time (one of which was the lending institution she applied with) would cause a rise in the interest rate. A higher rate is usually given to someone who is a greater credit risk - less than stellar credit - not someone with two inquiries on their credit report. A consumer check is probably nothing more than the BSA getting a credit report on a person. And you are correct vol_scouter, this will not show what someone has bought. What it will show is how long there has been a credit file on this person, how they pay their bills, if there are any judgments and/or liens filed against this person, address verification, name verification, SSN verification, how many times this person has applied for credit & how many times this person's credit report has been checked. I'm not sure what the BSA is telling people about these checks so I really can't defend that. Why is a consumer check necessary? It is possible there are some outstanding judgments against a person that could adversely affect them. And again you respond Acid Test. Thought you weren't? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

I still think the story of Jesus washing the feet of the apostles is a great demonstration of Servant Leadership To me, this is the greatest example of servant leadership.
