  1. Mr Boyce, You will get nowhere with Merlyn. His goal is to stop what he believes is intentional discrimination by the BSA yet he dos nothing to stop other types of the what he accuses the BSA of. It is called his agenda. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  2. Heart of America Council is a Class 300 council with 38,183 and 1,205 units. That makes the average/unit 31 youth. As of May 2008.
  3. Not what I asked Merlyn. Churches are tax exempt hence your government supports them. I'd bet your government has United Way campaigns and I'd bet there are many organizations on the United Way list that are discriminatory. Hence, your government supports them. You can chime back with "you don't have any facts" but that doesn't diminish my point. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  4. Well, by signing our application aren't we agreeing to abide by the rules & regs set forth by the BSA? Based on that, we should be able to view them if needed instead of going on a seek & find mission every time a question comes up. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  5. However, if the BSA is going to insist that it's a private, discriminatory organization, I'm going to insist that my government not support it, as private organizations support themselves. Then ya better get on all the other private organization your government gives $$$ to. You want to be fair, don't you?
  6. Wouldn't it be nice if all the rules & regs were in one place? My company has all their policy & procedures on an internal web site. This would be a great thing for the BSA to organize & do. One stop shopping in this day & age is the way to go. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  7. I love the Blazing Saddle reference OGE! Excellent!
  8. As of May 2008, total youth membership is 3,863,733. Total units is 128,171. That makes the average/unit 30 youth. National Capital Area Council is a Class 200 council with 75,481 youth membership and 1,807 units. That makes the average/unit 41 youth. Yankee Clipper Council is a Class 600 council with 7,049 youth membership and 267 units. That make the average/unit 26 youth. Sam Houston Council is a Class 200 council with 74,079 and 2,052 units. That makes the average/unit 36 youth. Great Salt Lake Council is a Class 300 council with 68,963 and 5,391 units. That makes the average/unit 13 youth. Chicago Area Council is a Class 500 council with 40,948 and 542 units. That makes the average/unit 75 youth. Atlanta Area Council is a Class 200 council with 40,943 and 848 units. That makes the average/unit 48 youth. Greater St Louis Area Council is a Class 200 council with 58,499 and 1,534 units. That makes the average/unit 38 youth. Orange County Council is a Class 200 council with 32,134 and 1,326 units. That makes the average/unit 24 youth. All figures are as of May 2008. Ed Mori 1 Pster 4:10
  9. Some are available on the BSA site. Some are available only in print. It isn't a secret organization, but not all the rules & regs are in one place. It would be nice if they were.
  10. I'm also an idealist, and I don't consider the BSA to be for the common good. What do you consider to be for the common good, Merlyn?
  11. I know I shouldn't but ................ This topic is about Eagle service projects, not general rank service projects. Big difference. And you are correct, scoutmomma, an Eagle service project requires the approval of the District Advancement Committee. The outside the sphere of Scouting refers to the project not benefiting the BSA. It must be done for an organization other than the BSA. I will not post in this thread anymore & suggest it be locked by the mods before it get out of hand. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  12. Common sense is something most lack, especially the ACLU!
  13. Didn't we just have a lengthy discussion about this & ended up agreeing to disagree?
  14. A post was made disparaging another forum member, and was dealt with. What else needs to be said? What else needs to be said? Well, an explanation of why you feel it is OK to make disparaging remarks about another forum member and your posted are un-edited or not deleted? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  15. When did "official" replace "field"? Good question, acco. I think the "official" uniform and the "field" uniform are one in the same. The current on-line catalog uses the word "official". Seems to be one of those ever changing things! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  16. Would a twit be a stupid dorky nerd?
  17. You won't find those words, Dustoff. Those were someones interpretation of what John-in-KC posted. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  18. If I recollect correctly, none of the three posts was an attack on anything. It would be nice to see them again so we could all make that determination. And it would be nice if when a post was edited or deleted, the poster was contacted via PM to let them know it was edited/deleted & why. and it would be nice if the moderators played by the same rules they want us to play by. And the funny thing is, I pretty much am in the same camp as Bob White on the topic under discussion here! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  19. Thanks jaxvol. Based on the additional information you posted, I would agree the Scout has not completed the requirements for the MB's in question. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  20. As the one who posted the comment Eamonn is referring to at the beginning of his last post, I have contacted the moderator in question via PM & either received a response less than satisfactory or no response at all. And based on the willy nilly way posts are edited, I have started copying a lot of posts prior to delete or editing so I have a record of the total inconsistency of moderation by the moderator in question. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 (Edit was to reword a sentence that was worded incorrectly in the original post)(This message has been edited by evmori)
  21. For Family Life he had done cleaning around the house for his project. The merit badge counselor thought there needed to be more thought and would like to have pre-approved the project. The requirement reads Plan and carry out a project that involves the participation of your family. After completing the project, discuss the following with your merit badge. counselor: 1. The objective or goal of the project 2. How individual members of your family participated 3. The results of the project Nowhere in the requirement does it state the MBC must approve the project. For Personnel Management he used the forms from MeritBadge.Org and filled them out and brought them in as his proof of completion. The requirement reads Do the following: 1. Prepare a budget reflecting your expected income (allowance, gifts, wages), expenses, and savings. Track your actual income, expenses, and savings for 13 consecutive weeks. (You may use the forms provided in this pamphlet, devise your own, or use a computer generated version.) When complete, present the results to your merit badge counselor. 2. Compare expected income with expected expenses. 1. If expenses exceed income, determine steps to balance your budget. 2. If income exceeds expenses, state how you would use the excess money (new goal, savings). None of the requirements for this MB require or ask for MBC approval prior to completion. While I'm not a big fan of last minute Eagles, we can't be adding to the requirements to prevent them. And based on what was posted, that is, in my opinion, what is happening with these two MB's. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  22. A PM away from the public eye is not what is needed at this point. This needs to be brought out into the open for all forums members to discuss. This affects all the members of the forums, not just those who have had their respective post removed or edited. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  23. OK. Already posted in the "new" topic! Gotta wonder what's going on, though.
  24. Gern, I'm not against civil liberties at all! I just don't feel the ACLU is American or civil.
