  1. "Piss Christ" was not paid for with public money. The artist who created it received $15,000 from the publicly funded National Endowment for the Arts for this work. I am one of the 3% who want my $15,000 returned.
  2. pack, I would agree with your statement about my tax dollars being spent unconstitutionally even though I am more concerned with my tax dollars being wasted on other junk. You say some of your son's friends were not allowed to join the BSA. Probably because they don't meet the membership requirements. And you say this upset your son. You also state that all boys should be able to join. Can all boys be join the school band or football team or swim team? Sure they can join, but if they don't meet the standards set by those teams they will be cut. Same with the BSA. If they don't meet the membership requirements, they can't be members. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  3. No, it's to prevent dishonest organizations like the BSA from infringing on the rights of atheists. And this is happening how? And enough with the BSA being dishonest! The organization chartering a BSA unit has just as much responsibility for knowing all they can about the organization they are chartering. I say the public schools who chartered BSA units are the dishonest ones! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  4. Looks like I'm an Anti Brusselite! Not a beet fan either!
  5. Pass the scotch. JW Black rocks! Keep the haggis!
  6. I was pointing out that the BSA does NOT make their discriminatory policies clear, because if they had, public schools would not have chartered units in the first place. You know that for a fact? Maybe the public schools never read the charter agreement. If that's the case, then the public schools are the one who are at fault. Either way, both should be held equally responsible. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  7. I agree they're both at fault Ed, I'd just put more blame on the BSA, because they knew about this problem for years and didn't bother to do anything about it. And the schools should have been aware of the problem, too. The blame should fall equally on both organizations because neither bothered to do anything about it. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  8. What OGE said about notifying the camp. Have you processed the blue card yet? Do you have any swimming MB counselors in your unit that would be able to re-check the requirement to see if it has been completed? It should be pretty easy to tell if he can did it. Have there been any other problems with this Scout? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  9. Ed writes: Don't ya think that maybe the public schools shoulda known that? Exactly my point, Ed. The BSA certainly didn't make it clear that chartering a BSA unit required religious discrimination, because public schools wouldn't have chartered any. No Merlyn, you missed my point. Public school officials know they can't discriminate. Along comes the BSA asking them to charted a unit & they say OK & sign on the dotted line without understanding what they are signing. They are just as guilty of not asking as the BSA is of not telling. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  10. No Gonzo, the BSA deliberately didn't tell public schools that they would have to violate the civil rights of atheist students by excluding them from public school chartered packs, because the BSA isn't honest. Don't ya think that maybe the public schools shoulda known that? Maybe some of the responsibility should be placed on them as well! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  11. What I meant Kudu was there have been general questions asked in this thread that have gone unanswered not necessarily posed to you specifically. One example would be Bob never answering what servant leadership means to him. Sure he posted there are books on the topic & has posted what is in those books. That doesn't answer the question, though. If I wanted to know what was in certain books, I would read them. What I asked was "What does servant leadership mean to you, Bob?" Up until now, the question is unanswered.(This message has been edited by evmori)
  12. The National Executive Board also consists of people for non-religious organizations. Hey we Presbyterians have some good coffee, too!
  13. Comments along the lines of "dead horse", "I can't believe it", the trite "agree to disagree" (whatever that means), and pie all strike me as put-downs to the person that commented just prior. Its pompous and arrogant to suggest that discussion should be stopped simply because one has lost interest. Agree to disagree means we are not going to come to a consensus and we should just realize that. None of those are put-downs. None is pompous or arrogant and to think so is, well, pompous & arrogant. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  14. By guaranteeing freedom OF you have freedom FROM religion.
  15. It might not be stated anywhere that atheist Scouts or leaders can be removed but then again it's not stated anywhere that any leader or Scout can be removed for anything. The fact remains that an atheist Scout or leader can and has been removed, much to Meryln's disappointment, just like a leader or Scout who is detrimental to the program has been removed. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  16. Looks like we are going to have to agree to disagree! Some say it is outside the sphere of Scouting. Some don't! Oh well! Another multi-page thread that ended up in the same place it started! Now, who wants pie?
  17. If you think that you need to have the entire contents of the rules and regs of the BSA in order to correctly and safely deliver the scouting program at the unit level then you greatly mislead. By signing the application, we are agreeing to b. In signing this application, I have read the attached information and apply for registration with the Boy Scouts of America. I agree to comply with the Charter and Bylaws, and the Rules and Regulations of the Boy Scouts of America and the local council. I affirm that the information I have given on this form is true and correct. I will follow the Youth Protection guidelines. So if we don't know what those rules & regs are, aren't we in violation of what we signed? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  18. That's the way I thought you would answer, Merlyn. Typical. Why do you believe what you listed exists if you have never seen, felt or touched those things/places?
  19. Ed, there are all kinds of things that exist that I can't see, feel, or touch; however, all of these things have other evidence for their existence, and not just bronze-age myths. Name a few Merlyn! I think we forget the BSA legally discriminates as do many other organizations. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  20. What problem did you have and how did/would the BSA rules and regulations help/would have helped? I am guessing this question was posed to me. Sorry for not responding sooner. The point I am so poorly trying to make is IF all the rules & regs were in one place, it would ease the hunt to find the answer when needed. Now we must look through a myriad of manuals & on-line resources and this can be confusing and could possibly be a reason some adult leadership does their own thing. I am not endorsing that, just pointing it out. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10(This message has been edited by evmori)
  21. I always find it interesting that people who can't see, feel or touch something don't believe it exists. Or because they can't comprehend that something could be done, it didn't happen. Sure the ark was an amazing vessel. Just as the pyramids are amazing structures. And yet, we don't know exactly how they were built. O'Hair was a Pittsburgh native and originally a Presbyterian! And it is sorta humorous that when she tried to defect to the Soviet Union, she was turned away! Her son, William, converted to Christianity decade ago! And he also referred to his mother as an evil person. Sounds like the kind of person I would want to put my belief in! NOT! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  22. With any kind of pocket flap (OA, CS Outdoor activity, Whittlin Chip) the button is no longer usable anyway. Not if the flap is sewn on properly. Only sew it within an inch on either side of the button. That way, the button is usable!
  23. The only thing outside the sphere of Scouting in an Eagle project is that the project can't be done for the BSA. Bob, if you would be so kind as to post the rest in the Advancement Committee Policies and Procedures Manual under the heading "Eagle Scout Rank" it would be very helpful. Otherwise, it's like quoting one Bible passage without knowing the passages around it. Out of context. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  24. OK. I need to lift my self imposed ban. Consider these elements: -It is done off of scouting property -for the benefit of an organization other than scouting. -No other scouts or scout leaders are required to be present. -No Scouting rule or regulation can be imposed on anyone there who is not with a scout unit or not there as a scout leader. -The BSA accident insurance and BSA liabilty protection does not cover anyone or anything at the project, unless they are there as part of a unit activity. -While a unit may attend the project as a unit activity, the BSA states clearly that the project itself cannot be done as part of a unit activity. I agree 100% with the above. -The SM, Committee and District Advancement committee have NO AUTHORITY over the project and cannot stop the candidate from doing the project, they can only determine whether the activity can be applied to the advancement or not. The DAM approves the project therefore giving them authority. Can a Girl Scout complete an Eagle Service Project? Nope, she can only help. Can a member of the 4H Club complete an Eagle Service Project? Nope, they can only help. To complete an Eagle Service Project one must be a registered youth member of the BSA. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
