Yep you can order the sterling silver medal. My son has one. (edit as a result of FFD)(This message has been edited by evmori)

It is exceptionally sad when things like this happen. If the DAC's would simply follow the guidelines, there wouldn't be all this crap! There are NO minimum number of hours required. The Scout or his parents or his unit are NOT required to get reference letters. The Scout is NOT required to wear his uniform when working on his project. The project write up must be detailed but there is NO required number of pages. The project write up DOESN'T need to be typed of fit into a form. It CAN be handwritten providing it is readable. Majority doesn't rule on this. These are advancement rules that should be adhered to. If not, you are opening up all the other advancement to the "let's just count it" mentality. Training is what is needed! And now! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Does not matter what religion (with the exception maybe of Satanism). So long as it doesn't promote harm to others, who am I to judge thier religion? Well, then we would have to boot all Muslims!
-
Now that makes a difference! As packsaddle said, proceed with the EBOR!

Here's the problem I have with this, NeilLup. It has been posted he was caught shoplifting. It is also possible he and/or his parents can't talk about this because the case is not finalized. And it is also possible they won't talk about it. And there is a good possibility they will lie about what happened to secure this Scout his Eagle. If I was on this EBOR, I would vote no. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

I think your treading on shaky ground unless you have written proof that this scout commited these acts. Remeber, you would be accusing hom of committing a crime, so tread lightly. If I read correctly, the Scout was 17 1/2 or younger when these crimes were committed. That would make him a juvenile & his record would not be available to the BOR. If he was caught, that is confirmed. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
-
I would say "Sorry, but you are obviously not living the Scout Oath & Law in your everyday life. I cannot vote for you to be an Eagle." I would also detail why in writing, give one to the Scout & also send one registered mail to his house. This might get overturned by National but at least you know it wasn't you who advanced this Scout knowing what you know. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

When can an Eagle Scout wear the patch?
evmori replied to gwd-scouter's topic in Advancement Resources
When I have sat on Eagle BOR's we have always told the Scout - "Congratulations! You are now an Eagle! Your paperwork will be forwarded to National for verification and barring any problems, they should confirm everything is in order." Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 -
Yup we have gotten out of hand. I tend to do that. And yeah some of my posts should be edited or removed. I think what most of us are asking is that when our posts are edited or removed, we should be notified by who & why. I don't think that is asking too much. And I feel the moderators should practice what they moderate! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

"A" week is 7 days. Technically, summer camp is 7 days. Arrive on Sunday & leave on Saturday. That's "a" week. Now let's not forget, a Scout may use a week of long-term camp but doesn't have to. It is possible a Scout may be part of a unit that doesn't go to summer camp or do any long-term camping. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

What's the connection between atheism and Judaism? Maybe the Roman Empire fell because of depravity!
-
Well vol_scouter, in my opinion organizations that denigrate atheists like the BSA lead directly to attitudes such as yours, just as organizations that exclude Jews end up having lots of members who have unfavorable views of Jews and Judaism. You are entitled to your opinion, Merlyn! Based on that opinion, organizations that only include atheists would end up having members who have unfavorable views of anyone who believes in God!

When can an Eagle Scout wear the patch?
evmori replied to gwd-scouter's topic in Advancement Resources
He can't purchase the patch until the paperwork comes back from National. He is an Eagle, he just can't wear the goods yet. -
Interesting statement. Let's use a baseline for this. Regardless of who or how you were chosen for the position you have in Scouting, let's go with everyone was chosen & approved by the COR. If we as leaders "take ownership" of the unit we are in, what does that mean? Are are we truly not doing the job we were approved to do? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
-
Gern, I removed all the mirrors from my house when I took ownership of the unit I was Scoutmaster of! Taking ownership, if done properly, is a good thing. This help make the unit stronger and give the unit strong leadership. If done improperly, it could lead to a dictatorship, which is never good. Simply not doing the job you were approved to do..... What does that mean ................
-
What's wrong with the volunteers taking ownership of their units? This usually leads to stronger units. And I would bet most CO's are CO in name only.
-
Other youth organizations (4-H, Boys & Girls) without the DRP disadvantage are growing. The BSA numbers are up from the same time a year ago. Maybe not growing as fast but still growing.
-
We were always there for our CO. We had a Scout Sunday service every year. When we did Scouting for Food, all the food we collected went into the church food bank. If they needed our meeting room, we happily gave it to them & changed our meeting place. Our relationship was good, but the CO was virtually uninvolved. Some CO's don't want to be involved! Why? Dunno. Maybe that is where the councils need to start their investigating. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10

Right on the money vol_scouter! I was offended by the picture as well and am just as offended that my tax dollars were used for this. But, apparently, the ACLU doesn't care! But they care about the BSA because the BSA whooped up on them in the Dale case! If the NEA does the same, watch the lawsuits fly!
-
Paper CO here, too! If the BSA gets away from the franchise method, then public schools & the armed forces & fire & police departments could be CO's again! I think it's a great idea! It would give more ownership to the unit & maybe make the units stronger! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
-
Great idea BDPT00! In the other thread, all that was posted was what was in books! Plus that thread wasn't about "What is Servant Leadership to you?"(This message has been edited by evmori)

I would have done what I said earlier - have the Scout apologize to the SM before ever signing off on the BOR! This can still be done!

Being a leader to other for others.

Gonzo1, I advocate for atheists' rights. The BSA still dishonestly charters units to government agencies and still tries to get taxpayers, including atheists, to subsidise their organization. I'm working to stop that. Maybe the government agencies dishonestly accepted the BSA charter! There are two sides to every coin! Yes Ed, but the piece wasn't created with government money. It won an award. Then were did the $$$$ come from? The NEA was established by Congress. Sounds governtmenty to me! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
