I tire of some posters holier than thou attitude faster than I tire of a poster with a sense of humor! I don't have anyone on ignore either since I feel that is just flat out rude! Yep GW, that [expletive deleted] word should be removed! Mods, please wield you red pens & have that three letter obscenity removed. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10 Done. Signed, the anonymous censor of free speech (This message has been edited by a staff member.)
  3. Scout Spirit according to the BSA program and as written in the Scout Handbook is not judged by the scoutmaster. So how can the Scoutmaster be responsible for signing it? And the interpretations continue! Scout Spirit is a rank requirement that must be signed off or the Scout doesn't advance. The interpretation above is very similar to the interpretation that Scout Spirit doesn't apply to when the Scout is involved with his unit and only applies to when the Scout is not involved with his unit. Everyday life includes Scouting! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  4. What if they did that Knothead and something updated in one handbook? Then they toss an upgrade on their site & have it available to download for those who have purchased it already! Way more cost effective & readily available! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  5. Wonder when the answers will appear? Maybe we will be given nothing more than manual & page references & have to look them up ourselves. That wouldn't surprise me! Here we are like birds in the wilderness Waiting for the answers!
  6. The current, BW, editions will remain at the current $3.49 price; the new, $4.49. Apparently color cost more than we think for the price to up $1.00! I really don't see the need to go to color for the pamphlets! I would be interested to see if more are sold in color than in B&W! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  7. I would agree jet526, but consider who asked the question, we need to parse as much as possible! After all, there is no COR, just a CR!
  8. Interesting request. If sounds like the DE & CO have some concerns as to how a unit is handling their finances & their Scouts & wants a 3rd party to have a look. Unusual request! Maybe this should be done more often. The DE and/or CO would be able to request the financial info they need to have the audit completed and having a 3rd party complete this makes perfect sense. Tough position to be put in, though. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  9. I think some of the answers you (and I) got wrong will be nits having to do with the wording of the question. Nits will be present! Does Bob include hitches with knots or does he mean uniform knots?
  10. And don't forget jet, a Scoutmaster Conference is not a pass/fail requirement. All the Scout is required to do is participate in one. COR, CR = same thing!
  11. What is the first Rank in Boy Scouts? Tenderfoot What knots are required for a scout earn First Class Rank? square knot, two half hitches, taut-line hitch, timber hitch, clove hitch, bowline. The only knots are the square & bowline the rest are hitches. Unless you mean uniform knots, then the answer is none. What knots are required for a scout to Earn eagle? See the answer to the previous question. What is the minimum days and nights of camping that a scot needs to earn First Class? For a Scout, six. No idea how many for a Scot. How many total days and nights of camping does a scout need to progress from Scout to Eagle Scout? A total of 20. How long does a scout have to finish a partial merit badge? Until his 18th birthday, unless he is disabled then I think until his 21st birthday. Can a parent be a merit badge counselor for their son? Sure can! True of false...A unit may set an attendance or participation measurement to determine if a scout is "acticve" in the unit? False True or false...A unit can set an attendance or participation measurement to determine Scout Spirt? False Who sits on a board of review for the ranks or Tenderfoot through First Class? Members of the unit committee. Except for merit badges who can sign a scout's advancement requirements? The Scoutmaster or whom ever the Scoutmaster designates. Can a scout sign his own handbook? Not sure but I don't think so. How many elective merit badges must a scout complete to earn the Star Rank? Two Can a youth identify himself as a Boy Scout when seeking donations for an Eagle Project? If asked, yes. For which merit badge can a scoutmaster automatically counsel because he is a Scoutmaster? None Who is responsible for traiing unit leaders about the BSA advancement program? In my district, the district training committee. Who is responsible for the merit badge program at a local summer camp? The Program Director How many personal references must a scout supply on his Eagle Application? Six if employed, five if not. How many references must the scout obtain for the Eagle board of review? None Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  12. True or false...A unit can set an attendance or participation measurement to determine Scout Spirit? False. Scout Spirit is based on how they live their daily life outside of scouting. Actually, Scout Spirit is based on how a Scout lives the Oath & Law in his everyday life which includes Scouting! I'll answer the questions in my next post. But since Bob has me on ignore, I'll never know who many I get wrong!
  13. Supply & demand have little to do with the current price of gas. NYMEX sets the wholesale price based on what ever they want to base it on. Some oil sheik could be going through a divorce so the price goes up. Their is a storm in China so the price goes up! The reason we don't see the effect of a lower wholesale price is because most stations don't buy gas at the cash price. They buy on contract prices a couple months out. And each state has a different tax & delivery rates which explains why prices vary from state to state. The current wholesale price for regular unleaded is $3.02 Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  14. Great quiz! Would you like us to post answers here? For some we could debate the correct answer.
  15. One of the SM's responsibilities is advancement. An ELSP is advancement. Unless the SM passes this responsibility along, then it is the SM's responsibility to review the project once it is complete to verify it was done according to the plan set forth that the DAC approved. There is a thread in another forum about a Scout only completing 1/2 of the project & quit because he was going on vacation. The Scout considers the project complete! The project needs to be verified before it is signed off by the unit. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  16. Why did the Scouts elect a bully to be their SPL? Could be the Scouts didn't know he was a bully when they elected him! Power does funny things to some people FScouter.
  17. If one follows the BSA standards for sending scouts home, then not attending merit badge classes in itself does not meet any of the BSA standards for such an action. A Scout signs up for 3 merit badges at summer camp & just decides not to go without telling anyone. Each day he leaves for his merit badge classes & does whatever. You take your weekly walk around camp to see how your Scouts are doing & find out this Scout has never been there yet when you asked him during the week how his merit badges were going he tells you fine. Sorta sounds like a not trustworthy issue to me. That might not be a reason to send a Scout home according to BSA standards, but it did happen in my unit one summer camp & the Scout was sent home. For lying. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  18. Bob White posts: I would never say to a scout "that's it you are going home". I would make sure that scouts knew from day one what was acceptable behavior and what was not (Scout Oath and Law) and make clear that if they do not act as scouts then they do not participate in scout activitities. I don't need to tell a scout he is going home. The parents can tell them when they get there to pick him up. Then: I have sent scouts home twice in 32 years. Once for bringing marijuana, and once for threatening to hurt an adult leader. Looks like we do send boys home. And not telling them & blind siding them when mom and/or dad show up isn't the way to go! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  19. I hope you do not seriously expect that the BSA National Supply Division would be versed in the BSA advancement regulations or in any the policies and procedures of any other BSA division? If they aren't they should be! They are producing & distributing advancement items. If these items are not in line with the BSA policy & procedure, they should not be produced & distributed. How about those names there Bob? Or are we to just take it on your good word? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  20. If the CO wants the boys out, that is their prerogative. Afterall, it is their unit.
  21. When the unit suffers from the actions of a Scout. When a Scout blows off all his merit badge classs. Theft.
  22. And these member whos talked with you, Bob, are who? Names, not titles, please. I agree John, something official in writing would solidify this. Otherwise, it is like hearsay!
  23. This is easy. Have your CO call your council & have them removed from the unit charter, inform them they are no longer members of you unit and give them your registration fee back. And tell them if they don't want to go along with this, charges will be pressed. There is no place in Scouting for this type of behavior. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  24. Counselor hence the name of the section.
  25. What it is time for is DAC's to follow the guidelines for Eagle projects & stop making up needless requirements!
