  1. Well, to split hairs just a little, the G2SS states Separate accommodations. When camping, no youth is permitted to sleep in the tent of an adult other than his own parent or guardian. There is nothing that states legal guardian. If dad wants his fiance to be his kids guardian for the camping trip, then they can bunk how they like. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  2. Are you claiming that this clause does not apply to scouts working on an Eagle project? If you subscribe to "an Eagle project is outside the scope of Scouting" yes. And, most likely, a Scout working on his Eagle project would be looking for materials for his project, not cash. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  3. Yup the short answer is no. But if an Eagle project is "outside the scope of Scouting" the Unit Money Earning form isn't needed therefore and rules & regs governing it don't apply. If a unit wants to sell candy door-to-door as a unit fundraiser they must completed the form & ask the Council Executive Committee if they may be allowed to wear their uniforms while selling candy door-to-door. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  4. The fundraising form and other policies on fundraising prevent the scout (or anyone else) from representing themselves as an agent of the BSA when soliciting for donations. To claim that because it is outside the sphere of scouting so the rules don't apply is silly. I couldn't wear my uniform if I was raising money for the soccer team. The policies on fundraising state if the Council Ececutive Committee give you the OK to wear you uniform while fundraising, then you can. What I stated was since some feel an Eagle project is "outside the sphere of Scouting" Scouting forms aren't necessary so the rules governing those forms don't apply. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  5. I thought the 18th birthday deadline was a National deadline, not Council?????
  6. Actually, jet, nothing states that. This is one of those things that's usually done just prior to the BOR. That doesn't mean the SM conference can't be done prior to completing all the other requirements for rank, except the BOR. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  7. I'd bet the DOT got heat from the vending machine owners like someone else posted.
  8. Gotta agree with FScouter. If Scout isn't a rank, get rid of the patch or make it a rank.
  9. If the SM has designated this task to the ASM in his absence, then yes. If he hasn't then no.
  10. If that were the case, PeteM, the entire ordeal would have been changed.
  11. Yup DE is the person who should have the correct answer.
  12. Ah yes. The Unit Money Earning form. Well, if an Eagle project is "outside the scope of Scouting" the form isn't necessary so any rules regarding it don't apply! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  13. If there wasn't the infusion of commentary in that article, it would make great stand-up material!
  14. In hazing, as I remember it, one typically wanted to become a member of some group. As part of the joining experience, hazing occurred, possibly to determine that you were "tough" enough to join or whatever. However, when you passed the hazing, and you joined, THE HAZING STOPPED. In fact, you probably got to haze other people as they wanted to join. Based on this, the OA ordeal is hazing!
  15. I don't mean to be quarrelsome, but not all Bob's answers were his interpretation of the rules. Most are non-disputable but there are some he posted that are his interpretation of the rules. It would have been helpful to cite the manual & page for each answer along with the actual answer. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  16. It seems strange to me that for resident camp they would have individual Cub sign up an not by unit. I would check into this first. I can see individual Cub sign up for day camp. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  17. Yep jet you are correct! Thanks for pointing that out! 16 out of 19 = 84%. I'll take that!
  18. Sadly, a lot of Scouts don't read the handbook either.
  19. I have always been in favor of two-tier pricing. Get your reservation in by X & you pay X. Get your reservation in later & you pay more, but there still needs to be a cutoff date. And the reservations should be by unit, not individual. Otherwise, this makes planning a total nightmare for the unit & the camp! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  20. I think the confusion with a JASM is he is actually an ASM! The junior assistant Scoutmaster serves in the capacity of an assistant Scoutmaster except where legal age and maturity are required. He must be at least 16 years old and not yet 18. He is appointed by the Scoutmaster because of his leadership ability. In the Troop organization chart, he is above the SPL & equal to other ASM's. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  21. How many personal references must a scout supply on his Eagle Application? The scout must provide the names and contact information for 6 references if he is employed, 5 if he is not. Parent/guardian Educational Religious Employer 2 others Got that correct! Common errors on the the other questions Saying Scout is a rank and counting Palms as ranks Got that correct! Thinking Sheet Bend is a required knot Guess I got that correct since I didn't think the sheet bend was required. Thinking that there are other knots in the camping merit badge or other meritbadges that the scout would need to know for Eagle Think I got that correct! Adding the days and night required for Tenderfoot, Second class and first Class together. There are only three night total since joing Gotta disagree. Tenderfoot requirement Spend at least one night on a patrol or troop campout. Sleep in a tent you have helped pitch. That's one! 2nd Class Requirement Since joining, have participated in five separate troop/patrol activities (other than troop/patrol meetings), two of which included camping overnight. That makes three! 1st Class Requirement Since joining, have participated in ten separate troop/patrol activities (other than troop/patrol meetings), three of which included camping overnight. That makes six! Adding the lower rank camping nights to the Camping merit badge and saying that the minimum ims 23 or 26 Guess I got that correct????? What are ims? Many people still believe a merit badge must be finished in 2 years. Think I got that correct! Most scouters have no idea what the rules for merit badges are. Parents can be counselors to their sons. Got that correct! FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE Two more correct! Some adults think that other scouts serv onthe board, a practice that changed decades ago. Guess I got that correct! Anyone the scoutmaster approves can sign for advancement, even other scouts Got that correct! Even the Scout himself can sign as in the case of Scout Spirit Would disagree. If the SM hasn't given the Scout the authority to sign, then he can't. there are no elective merit badges required a Scout can earn Star and Life using ONLY Eagle required merit badges if he chooses. Got that incorrect! NO, A person cannot seek donations for an outside organization using the name and image of the BSA unless it is a BSA activity approved by the council scout executive or the national office of the BSA. Eagle Scout projects are "outside the sphere of scouting" Gotta disagree. If the Scout is asked, should he lie or say "I can't tell you"? This is a real misinterpretation. And the answer you give, Bob, is not what you asked. You must be a registerd anhd approved counselor for each mb you counsel, even if you are a SM. Got that correct! The District Advancement Committee is responsible for training units regarding the BSA advancement program. Got that correct! The Council Advancement Committee is responsible for the merit badge and advancement programs at Summer camp. Got that wrong! Answered at the start of the post. Got that correct! ZERO, it is the council/district advancement committee who is responsible for collecting the references. You cannot postpone or cancel and Eagle board of review for lack of any or all references. Got that correct! Kudos to anyone who took the time to find the right answers. If you do not know the program you should at least know where to find the program information, If every leader on this and other scouting forums did that there would probably be fewer posts and far more worthwhile ones. 17 out of 19! 89%! Considering a post not a worthwhile one is, well, you know. It would have been nice if Bob actually gave us the answers instead of commentary, but then again, it should be expected. Well, looks like FScouter censored my a** but left Personally, I think GW was being an ass. But that's just my opinion Once again, it depends on who posts, not what is posted for certain mods! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  23. For a Scout, Scouting is part of his everyday life. So to say Scout Spirit only applies to those activities outside of Scouting isn't accurate. The Scoutmaster is the person in the unit responsible for signing off on rank advancement. The SM can delegate this to someone else in the Troop but doesn't have to. And since Scout Spirit is a rank requirement, the SM is the one who signs off, not the Scout. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  24. Ditto to what Ron posted. Let the Scout sell himself!
