  1. I'm confused, too. I thought kids quit because the unit program sucked! Now we find out they quit because of no parental support! Which is it? Or is it both? Inquiring minds want to know!
  2. Bob never responds to my posts because he has me on ignore. I would PM him, but he told me he will ignore them, too. So would someone please ask him which statement of his is correct? They are: "But choosing the leader and removing the leader is the units responsibility." "Who is responsible for selecting and approving unit leaders? The Charter Organization." Thanks
  3. Is building a house routine labor? Yeah. But then again most Eagle projects are routine labor. I think the difference is cleaning up a highway is more like maintenance than labor. Maybe it should be worded differently.
  4. Boy run???? If so, why more adult unit positions?
  5. 1st off, you as the SM are not required to be part of the project. Remember, this is the Scout's project & there is no requirement for the Scout to include members of his unit, youth or adult. What was this project that you signed off on? From my initial read, it seems this Scout was not doing anything wrong, just not the way you wanted it done? I could be wrong. It would helps if we knew what the project was. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  6. Still picking up trash - routine labor. And if a hazmat suit is necessary, Scouts should be far away.
  7. Why are these positions even necessary? Because parents don't want anything to happen to their precious little boys! It's not the kids who have trouble cutting the apron strings, it's the parents who won't untie them! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  8. To me, it sounds like we are tossing people at a perceived problem. There is already a PC position, it's called the SM!
  9. Interesting that roadside cleanup isn't seen by some as acceptable, yet trail restoration is commonly used in some districts. Trail restoration can entail regrading, clearing brush, building benches, placing mile markers, widening/narrowing, etc. where roadside clean-up is nothing more than picking up trash. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  10. But choosing the leader and removing the leader is the units responsibility. Who is responsible for selecting and approving unit leaders? The Charter Organization. OK Bob, which is it? You have stated both. Would you please clear this up? Thanks. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  11. Servant leadership begets future servant leaders.
  12. But choosing the leader and removing the leader is the units responsibility, nopt the councils. Wait! I thought choosing & removing leaders was the responsibility of the Charter Organization? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  13. What is a legacy project? I'm with OGE on this. This project would be tough to show leadership in. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  14. evmori and CalicoPenn By your logic I can raise funds (or materials) to support our local Hooter Girl's Daycare and be able to identify myself as being a part of the Boy Scouts to do it (after all it is outside the sphere of scouts). If this is not the case, then please explain why the same reasoning will not apply to the scout working on his Eagle project. Yes you can. But why would you be raising funds to support the local Hooter Girl's Daycare? An Eagle project can't be for a business so why would you be identifying yourself as a Scouter? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  15. What wise counsel can a UC or DC give An ASM who wants to remove the SM other than "the only people with that authority is the Charter organization representative and the Committee chairman While that might be the fact, I wouldn't call it wise counsel. In my opinion, wise counsel would be listening to the concerns & giving advise about those concerns. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  16. So if the SM is calling the Scout & leaving messages with no return calls from the Scout & sending the Scout e-mails with no replies is that Engaged by his unit leadership on a regular basis (informed of unit activities through Scoutmaster conference or personal contact, etc.) even though the Scout is not returning any messages or e-mail the SM has left?
  17. Wilderness Survival would be a good one. I would remove Family Life.
  18. It would be nice if they were registered, but Scouting isn't a secret society & many members of this forum have stated if they wanna go, they should! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  19. I think you will find if you check with a lawyer that legal guardian ship (which is what the BSA refers to when it says parent or guradian) is not likely to be the correct way to go in this case unless you really think the mother WANTS to forfeit her parental rights to her boy friend. Anyone know where we can find the BSA defines guardian as "legal guardian"? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  20. Why can't the parents go to any adult leader in the unit? I don't see the need for another adult position like this. I only think it will create problems. This is the Boy Scouts of America, not the Parents of America. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  21. We finally got the answers! Now how about some real BSA references to go along with those answers! Cause all we got now is Bob's interpretations & the one about the Eagle donations is not accurate. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  22. The ScoutParent Initiative seems to be a way to appease the helicopter parents who won't let little Johnny out of their sight!
  23. Ya really gotta wonder what goes on in helicopter parents heads! Man when I grew up, I was never home in the summer! I'd yell to my mom I was heading to where ever & she'd holler back be home by xxxx & off I went! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  24. sherritroop103, Welcome! A Scoutmaster Conference is not a pass/fail requirement. It is a participate requirement. The Scoutmaster Conference would be a great place to talk to a Scout about his advancement! But, there is no requirement a Scout have his rank requirement signed before a Scoutmaster Conference. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  25. The BSa program is what the BSA says it is, not what you think it is. Great statement! Now, Bob, since you feel that way, how about giving us the BSA answers & references to those answers instead of what you think it is. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
