  1. Why would they match the uniform if they are only worn on the sash? Wouldn't it make more sense to match the sash? I did notice merit badges do not seem to be available on the BSA web site.
  2. Whether on-line or in a book it still has to be read, and many posters here take a dim view of people who read. Now that is an urban legend!
  3. Thanks for clearing up my wording Bob! I was in kind of a hurry! I did mean the urban legend is a Scout can't ID himself as a Scout while seeking donations for that project. Thanks again!
  4. Yeah urban legends abound everywhere in Scouting! I know in my council, sheath knives & liquid fuel are prohibited. It's easy to see how some urban legends are propagated. Like an Life Scout working on his Eagle project isn't allowed to identify the project as an Eagle projects when approaching the organization he wishes to do the project for.
  5. The real root cause of the problem at CR with this issue has yet to be identified. Is it people, process or volume It could be a combination of all three, but since this doesn't seem to be such a problem elsewhere, I would start with the people. Problem solving should be a merit badge. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  6. Is that entire list urban legends? I'm not sure I understand what the point of that list is????
  7. WOW! If you submit your properly completed permit 3 months prior to the trip, there is no excuse for not getting it back in time! NONE! Never had this problem in the Northeast. Takes a couple weeks!
  8. Yeah yeah yeah! Ya can't subscribe to "an Eagle project is outside the sphere of Scouting" then apply Scouting rules to it! That's like saying one has to wear a seat belt while walking down the street! Plus, the Scout is most likely asking for materials & supplies & not money! Don't see any restrictions on that! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  9. Sometimes someones practical experience is what is needed instead of chapter & verse from a manual.
  10. CNYScouter, You have the correct location. The only problem is if an Eagle project is "outside the sphere of Scouting", the rules for the Unit Money-Earning Application don't apply. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  11. What is gonna be hilarious is when all these tattooed individuals end up in nursing homes with their wrinkled up bodies! Imagine what all those tats will look like then!
  12. Ya can't compare the cost of PTC to the cost of Disney World or any other theme park! They aren't the same! Compare the cost of PTC to another conference! I attend the New Wilmington Mission Conference every year. This is an eight day conference on the campus of Westminster College. The cost for 2008 was between $355 - $395 depending on when you registered. The cost includes room, 3 meals a day and full access to the entire conference. The cost is very similar to PTC. Does anyone else know of any other conferences that are similar? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  13. What you are trying to achieve, PACK15NISSAN, is commendable & I for one hope you are able to accomplish it. Just giving out awards or recognition because everyone else got one is just setting kids up for failure later in life. Not everyone gets everything & there are things that must be earned. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  14. Who exactly are you referring to when you say "Council"? Do you mean the volunteer training committee, the Scout exec, the girl behind the counter, the volunteer president? Who is "Council" ? For me, Council is whoever is employed by Greater Pittsburgh Council!
  15. I would bet the reason the ROTC was given the priority was $$$$$$$. We all know $$$$$$$ talks! Sad but true!

    KNOTS

I see nothing wrong with adults wearing the knots they have earned!
  17. Bob, You have stated But choosing the leader and removing the leader is the units responsibility. Who is responsible for selecting and approving unit leaders? The Charter Organization. Which is it? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  18. If this is such a grand program, why is it no more publicized? (edit - typo)(This message has been edited by evmori)
  19. The first a lot of us heard about this was in these forums! My council web site has nothing about it & National's has minimal! I had to search for ScoutParent on National site to find the three old reference they have! Enjoying your units activities and " Enjoys participating with his or her Scout and inspires their child to persevere in Scouting with their tenure, activity participation and achievement" are two completely different things. If you can't see that, Bob, then it's time to get those eyes checked! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  20. I got one! A Scoutmaster from a Troop in my town was arrested for having kiddie porn!
  21. You have yet to identify a single fact about the program that is related to your phobias. And other than spouting the company line, Bob, you have yet to list any single facts about this program that relate to your opinions either! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  22. Yes I am OGE. Reason - I don't feel we need to toss more adults into the mix to try to fix a perceived problem. If the SM and ASM's & CC are trained properly, there is no need for this position in Boy Scouts. And how much ya wanna bet, the parents who will sign up for these new positions will be unable and/or unwilling to attend training! To me, it's a little scary! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  23. I'm gonna take a stab at these! Is it your opinion that growing and learning and having a positive relationship with your parents is mutually exclusive? No they aren't mutually exclusive. Has anyone suggested as such? Do you have evidence that Scouting does not do the positive things mentioned in the passage you selected? I don't think this has ever been suggested of inferred. Do you believe that developing a positive relationship with ones parents is not a part of growing and learning? This is the same as the 1st question, just reworded. I am not advocating, nor do I think anyone one else is, that parents not be involved in their kids lives. What I am reading is these new positions for parents are really not necessary & could be more trouble than they are worth. I guess the upside is these positions aren't required yet. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  24. WOW! As long as you are following the G2SS, then you are doing the correct thing. Enjoy the pool party & let us know how things turn out! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
