  1. John-in-KC, I know "The study of leadership as an academic discipline actually exists." I just do see the need to study it in the BSA. What is needed is practical application.
  2. The requirement reads "While a Star Scout, serve actively 6 months in one or more of the positions of responsibility" Nothing about "within a 6 month period". So, based on that, the 6 months doesn't have to be consecutive, though, in most cases it will be one POR for one 6 month period.
  3. To me, "serve actively" means to actually do something in the POR the Scout is in. In other words, if a Scout is the Quartermaster & he does nothing for his term of POR, then he didn't serve actively hence didn't complete the basic requirement for the POR. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  4. Actually, the BSA membership has been on the rise over the last few months.
  5. Ya might have to eat the active requirement but all the others ya don't. Sounds like this Scout was let slip through the cracks. That is just as much the unit fault as it is the Scout! Remember, just because this boy is about to age out doesn't mean you need to bend over backwards for him. He needs to do his part, too! After all, it's his advancement, not the units. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  6. 1st names are OK but last names shouldn't be posted unless the site is password protected.
  7. Eagle92, Initially, my goal was to start a discussion regarding the use of these management tools as leadership development training in Scouting. That worked for awhile until Bob & Kudu hijacked the thread. Personally, I don't like the idea of using management tools as leadership development for the BSA. Yes the BSA is a business but the leadership that needs to be taught to the volunteers isn't the same as what corporate America needs. The focus is completely different! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  8. So, units requiring both a Whittlin Chip and a Totin Chip are ADDING to BSA Requirements. The Totin Chip covers the learning and certification tasks. The Totin Chip is required to earn the Woodcarving MB.
  9. Horizon, Yep as Christians we are to minister to all. And as Christians, we are to live in the world, not of the world. New and old covenant of love? Interesting theory. Would you care to explain? Maybe start a new thread! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  10. Actually, "God is sovereign and His Righteousness cannot be denied or redefined" applies to every country throughout the globe! God isn't of this world. He created it!
  11. The dishonest agencies who accept BSA charters knowing of the BSA membership requirements!
  12. Nothing bizarre Merlyn! Why is ONLY the BSA dishonest & not the charter partner?
  13. The chartering organization has just as much responsibility as the BSA in this yet you fail to call them dishonest, Merlyn! And the BSA is for all boys who meet the membership requirements! And the BAS doesn't illegally discriminate! And again HUD has just as much responsibility as the BSA when they issue grants! So go after 'em all or drop the "dishonest BSA" line! You have no proof!
  14. There ya go again with the dishonest line, Merlyn! Ya got nothing to back it up with so drop it!
  15. Why would you care, Merlyn, what Mazzuca means? You aren't a member of the BSA so it has no effect on you! Horizon, Good for you! Glad to hear it! You are a rarity! Gay youth director at your church? Now that's a double negative if I ever heard of one! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  16. Yeah progressive parents! (loud guffaw) I wonder how many of these "progressive parents" have friends that are homosexuals or atheists? Wonder if they are members of their card clubs? Wanna bet the answer is "NO"!
  17. This sounds more like 3rd year WEBELOS than Boy Scouts!
  18. Thanks for the ditty but this is still about how misinformation weeds it way into appearing as the truth. Misinformation also comes from how one interprets what one reads in the BSA manuals. Everything is not black & white & there are many gray areas that require interpretation. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  19. I wasn't referring to your post OGE. That was from one of Bob White's posts.
  20. One person proclaims it as fact and other blindly follow. A true & very accurate statement!
  21. What I saw as the difference was that jblake doesn't know that he is following the program, he felt he was training his patrol his way and that is was somehow different from what the BSA training and program supports. Didn't read that at all. What I read was jblake telling us how he does things. Don't think he posted it was different from what the BSA training & program supports. When you read between the lines all you read is white space.
  22. Can anyone figure out based on the org chart figure out where either adult or youth training belongs? It looks like it might belong under Innovation and Strategy, which is "responsible for the ongoing evolution of the Scouting program. I'm guessing Council Solutions, although it isn't very clear. No surprise! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  23. I would start by contacting the District Advancement Chair. Let them know the situation and that the scout is searching for the original. Ask if he would sign the back up copy just in case the original is not found. The contacting should be done by the Scout unless the Scout has asked the SM to do the contacting. And even then, the SM should coach the Scout on how to handle the call instead of making the call himself. This is an excellent learning situation for the Scout. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  24. The upside of all this is he has the electronic copy! Sounds like he will have to get everything signed-off again if he can't find it! And like GW posted, this is his problem, not yours. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
