  1. John, I seriously doubt if there is a law on the books that prohibits the serving of alcohol in a private home when youth are present.
  2. What BSA policy applies to an ECOH? These are optional & not regulated by the BSA! And since it is at a private home, the only rules that apply are the local laws. I don't agree with alcohol at any BSA function, but there is nothing to stop one from serving alcohol in their own home. If it bothers you, don't go.
  3. I'm sure there is a point to this thread but from the original post it sounds like nothing but a personal rant.
  4. She might not have much experience but neither does Obama & he want's the main job! What this lady does have is morals!
  5. Isn't it permissible to still wear the old uniform? And why would the BSA destroy those patches? I thought a Scout was to be thrifty??? Nice example!
  6. Why would the unit committee have to approve anything? The only thing that they should be doing is checking to make sure all the paperwork is in order. Having the entire committee approve the Scout's project IS adding to the requirements. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  7. Do a little reading about her! From what I have read so far, she ain't no slouch!
  8. I assume you are talking about the Troop committee? If I'm not mistaken, the signature needs to be a unit leader, which can be any registered adult in the unit!
  9. Well, guess he figured since Obama chose an old white guy he'd go after the female vote! This is one of the main reasons I hate politics!
  10. I was working with a couple Scouts on a merit badge a couple weeks ago & I asked them about the new MB books. They said they were nice, but for the extra $1, they would pass & buy the black & white one. Same info! A Scout is Thrifty! (edit - typo)(This message has been edited by evmori)
  11. Stosh beat me to it! Without a basis (rules or guidelines) there is nothing to base ethical decisions on. How would you know if something is ethical if you have no basis? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  12. Well, they're certainly not based on a list of rules. Ed says "If there are no rules or guidelines, how is one to know what is ethical? " So tell us the rules that are needed to ensure ethical choices are made. I'd be more than happy to share as soon as you do FScouter. What are they based on?

    KNOTS

Prejudice 1. an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason. 2. any preconceived opinion or feeling, either favorable or unfavorable. 3. unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, esp. of a hostile nature, regarding a racial, religious, or national group. 4. such attitudes considered collectively: The war against prejudice is never-ending. 5. damage or injury; detriment: a law that operated to the prejudice of the majority. GaHillbilly, Seems your definition fits!
  14. Ethical choices are not made by following a list of rules or guidelines. Teach principles, values, and morals, ethical choices follow; no rules needed. What are the principles, values & morals you are teaching based on?(This message has been edited by evmori)
  15. I understand that Gunny, but even situational ethics have rules & guidelines.
  16. Apparently, Lisabob, laser tag is still a no-no! I coulda sworn there was an on-line version of the G2SS that had it removed!
  17. Ditto to what Barry posted! And I'd bet if you asked him if he would put that on his resume you'd be shocked at the Answer.
  18. Hey, there's an idea! Put the crippled kid in front of the Piggly Wiggly with the tin cup, for to get him a wheel chair. When he gets to be an adult he'll have a lot of experience in how to get on in life. Now that is one tasteless comment! It should be removed!
  19. I'm not a Brady fan & don't feel what the Patriots did was engineered by him. I do take issue with his out of wedlock kid & cavalier attitude about his prowess with women. No I don't feel he is a good role model for boys. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  20. OK So this Date: Fri, 18 Jan 2008 11:55:12 -0500 Sender: Scouts-L Youth Group List From: wendie howland Subject: The last word on lasertag All, I asked National RM for a definitive reading on this. Got the following: > "... (we have modified the online) Guide to Safe Scouting and > removed the word "lasers" from the unauthorized activities. The > Risk Management Advisory Panel, made up of two Scout Executives > from each region, elected to remove the wording. This does not > change anything regarding paintball. After two committees reviewed > the topic in 2007, paintball is still an unauthorized activity. Many thanks to them for the response, and you all have a great day! never happened? Was there a change of heart? If I remember correctly, the G2SS was changed to remove the word Lasers but the current version has it! What's up? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  21. Instead of hijacking the other thread, this one seemed to make sense. FScouter posted Ethical choices come from within, using your brain, applying principals, morals, character, and knowledge. Ethical choices need no rules or guidelines to limit choices. I agree with the 1st sentence but not the 2nd. If there are no rules or guidelines, how is one to know what is ethical? Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  22. On it's face there is little if any difference. We have always had diversity in Scouting. There are many kids who are disabled either physically or mentally that do great in Scouts! There are many units that are racially & ethnically diverse & there are no problems. My question, is why, all of a sudden do we need to address diversity in Scouting? My opinion, to be politically correct! Which in my opinion is a bunch of whooey! Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  23. The comment/death threat isn't a separate issue. This goes directly to Scout Spirit if he wasn't kidding around!
  24. And C)a poor attempt at humor. I'd have a sit down with this Scout & talk to him about it. Since you said he seems immature, you might find this was a poor attempt at humor & nothing more. If that's the case, I would talk to him about the wrong time & place for such things & the right time & place for such things (although I'm not sure there is a right time & place for what her wrote). Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
  25. What do you see the diversity ticket item as encompassing? The 1st thing that comes to mind is racial but there are others. And I also see this as understanding & realizing there are people in this world that are different from me racially, economically, physically, emotionally, etc. and ways to accept & include these diversities when necessary. Hope this answers your question. Ed Mori 1 Peter 4:10
