  1. Dean, Where there is a will, there is a way I was one of those single parent Scouts. And while I didn't have the official BSA pants for some time, I did have the imitation surplus ones. Couldn't tell they weren't official within 5 feet of me. Thrift stores were a great place to find uniforms, IF you could find your size. Shirts were no problem, heck I would buy shirts for the patches and then sell them to guys in the troop for cost. i eventually did get BSA pants, btu it was challenging.
  2. When BSA had the two NASCAR cars in the late 1990s, early 2000s, the two cars were donations from one of the racing organizations. If memroy serves, the cars would not race at NASCAR events b/c most sponsors at the time were tobbacco companies. The cars were instead use for PR at local council, criss crossing the USA. Don't know the details of the deal, but it may be that this is anotehr donation, and BSA didn't put a dime into it, but rather approached s company to sponsor.
  3. Missed the approval part. If a uniform was required for approval back in my day I know of at least one freidn who'd be out a luck. He was meeting the district rep on his way to work as a lifeguard. and District rep was in the yard cutting grass. As for expectations, I sure hope that someone who has spent a minimum of 18 months, or however long it is now, in the BSA and going for his Eagle would have a complete uniform, or at the very least an attmpt at a complete uniform. Then again I've seen photos on BSA's FB pages that have ECOHs with the Eagle in jeans. Ah carumba.
  4. Base, Actually TC can not do Horseback riding at ANY scout function, unit or council level, per G2SS.
  5. Ditto the classics: Scooby do, Transformers, Bugs Bunny, Flintstones, etc.
  6. Up is good. So is Incredibles and Cars.
  7. OGE, I have to agree with the others on this one. If it is expected that the Eagle Candidate(EC) come to his EBOR in uniform, then the Scouters on the board need to set the example by wearing theirs if they have one. I do know of EBORs that have community reps on them who are not Scouters, and would expect them to show up in appropriate attire. Againthe key for me is setting the example. All of the EBORs I know about have been formal affairs, akin to a job interview. ECs show up wityh MB sashes and medals. Now I've heard of less formal ones, but the uniform is still expected, albeit without the MB sash and medals.
  8. I may have to turn in my Uniform Police badge for this, but my philosophy is that if BSA or a council produces/issues it, it is a valid uniform item. I know last nite my son wore his camp hat instead of his mesh CS hat b/c it was too cold for the mesh. Best example of a unit wearing a multitude of hats would be my old troop in a summer camp picture one year. Several of the guys went to Canada the year before and wore the hats they traded. two wore Philmont hats, there were a few summer camp staff hats, and a BSA expedition hat with the First Class emblem on it among the regular BSA hats.
  9. Which version: 1930s or 40s, Disney cartoon, or Disney Live action?
  10. Was it this hat found here? http://scoutstuff.org/BSASupply/ItemDetail.aspx?cat=01RTL&ctgy=PRODUCTS&c2=APPAREL&C3=AHATS&C4=&LV=3&item=64053&prodid=64053^8^01RTL& Cub Scouts Graffiti Cap
  11. DG, My two oldest sons love FMB, and know the lyrics to the song. That was done before oldest joined CS this past year.
  12. Yep I will be going back to talk. The topic came b/c she is running low on some CS leader books, and had some training materials out for sale. i just informed her not to order anymore CS leader amterials, nor outdoor training materials, as they are changin the CS program in May as well as outdoor training. The owner then informed me that they will be makign changes to the CS uniform. Hopefully they will be bringin back one cap and slide for T-W-B levels.
  13. My question is this; why create a belt loop and pin that all CS can earn, BUT then say that only Wolves and above can do the activity at scout functions. Yes I am irked b/c I am a TCDL, and at the council functionin a few months i am goign to have to deal with this problem with my den. BUT more importantly there is a major disconnect between the different groups producing the awards and rules and regs. Some consistancy would be nice.
  14. I can't answer that question. BUT my beef with that particular belt loop is that according to the book, Tigers can earn the loop and pin, BUT according to G2SS not at BSA events sinceis inappropriate for Tigers
  15. Has anyone heard about changes to the CS uniform to come out later this year? I was visiting a distributorship, and the comment that they are changing the CS uniform came out.
  16. I've been only to two EBORs, my own and one lcoally. At my EBOR, everyone was in complete uniform EXCEPT the new Adv. Chair. reping council. At the one I've been to locally, everyone was in complete uniform. At one time, not all folks who sat on the EBOR had to be registered scouters, rather they could have been local distinguished citizens invited to sit on a EBOR. When that has happened i woudl expect the person to be dressed appropriately.
  17. As a former pro, I can tell you that the PTB can make your life hell if you try to correct things. I had my PDL-2 course cancelled at the last minute, about 2 days before I was to leave. I also had my honeymoon cut short due to an "urgent meeting" that all pros were suppose to attend at camp, "no excuses" (only myself and the pro sent as PD were in attendance). I also had my week long summercamp assignment moved to the week after my wedding instead of before (which actually hurt the camp more than it did me as I was suppsoe to be leading a HA trek and they had to scramble for a replacement) and was told that I would be getting transferred to a district 2 hours away, despite the PTB knowing my wife had a semester left at the local college. All because I was trying to fix the district's problems. It was only with the support of my wife that I was able to say I quit. Ok it was more of the lines, "quit your job or I want a divorce" ultimatum from her after 2 months of marriage, but she knew me well enough to know that I wouldn't put us in financial difficulties without her support. Best decision ever made. Moral is that it can be very, VERY difficult for a DE at times.(This message has been edited by eagle92)
  18. Beav, I believe you have a JD behind your name so I am deferring to your expertise. Be advised that that is what I've been told.
  19. Scoutfish, A little hint about the uniform pants. B/C of the elastic in them, you can shink the pants at least 2 sizes (oldest bought a size 10 when he wears a size 6) and you DO NOT CUT THE LEGS (caps for emphasis). Instead I folded them twice and hemmed them just underneath the leg zipper, that way all I need to do is cut the hem, refold the legs to the righ size, and resew. BAM the pants are good for 3-4 years. Speaking of rehemming, I need to do that as he just grew another inch. LOL
  20. Brodie, When you are performing your duties as an CA, you are expected to follow the G2SS. While I believe the BSA accident insurance will cover it, the liability will not. You will be completely on you own if a negligence lawsuit is brought up. Yep sometimes rules suck. Heck I rememeber one company I worked for required everyone withing x amount of feet from a body of water to wear a lifejacket. So the entire group of 3 adults and 9 youth go to a aquarium and the accompanying beach for their display, wearing lifejackets without ever goign into the water.
  21. NE, It can be challenging. When we had our "challenging" SE and DFS combo, we did lose a bunch of great volunteers and actually had two units trying to switch councils (my district borders the 2 neighboring councils and one potential CO was just down the road form where a pack and troop was meeting). Luckily when they left, things improved greatly. Luckily we got a great SE on the council level. Some of exec board members I've met also work on the unit level, or have been long term scouters. As for our DE, great guy who is program oriented. Only problem I got with him is that he will be working summer camp, instead of workgin CS day camp with me, LOL.
  22. DG, Question is for CS level. For whatever reason, around here it is the Cubs who tend not to have the full uniform. At the boy scout level 99.9% do have the full uniform, usually the new scouts and the SCOUTREACH units, won be in full uniform. Then again the BS get inspected 2x per year, and those inspections count towards the camporee point system. Besides I'm use to weekly uniform intersections by the SPL, with the points going to Patrol of the Year award. Scoutfish, I wouldn't worry about the patch discrepancies. National fouled that up when they didn't publish an Insignia Guide in time for the Centennial uniforms. And the brochure that they did publish did say mix and match was allowed, which is a good thing too since they changed the info to state that Cubs and their leaders, wear red and whites instead of the tan and greens. Besides I have a new shirt too, and I've been around for a while.
  23. let me clarify, What are some good CHEAP ways to REWARD for proper uniforming. I know a bunch of wasy to get uniforms. Kinda hard with some of them as out SCOUTREACH program has an in with uniforms.
  24. Not to change the subject, but what are some cheep ways to promote uniforming?
