having worked for supply, the policy was a advancement report still had to be filled our and the word REPLACEMENT underneath the information. ALL advancement items are restricted: arrowpoints, badges, medals, etc. Also in reference to knots, while an advancement report is not necessary, proof that you earned it is required.

Underweight Dr will not clear for all activities
Eagle92 replied to jemek's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Make sure the form is the MOST UP TO DATE VERSION available, one that mentions the Body Fat % and not an older one form a few months ago. I know my form that I had the doc fill out made no mention of the body fat %, but as I read the FAQs, noticed it now mentions a body fat %. As long as he isn't over 295 pounds and is under 21% body fat, he is good to go. -

I promise this won't be a rant, or even a series of rants I just remembered an autobiography I read back in the day about a WWII Marine Raider, predecessors to Marine Recon and today's spec ops Marines. Anyway this guy did not meet the USMC's H/W guidelines at the recruter's, also being underweight. The recruiter suggested that he come back in an hour or so, after having a very full meal and heavy deserts in order to meet the minimum weight. He followed the recruiter's suggestion, gorged himself, and met the weight minimum. -
Returning of Program Beads

Not a WB critter, but am a BA22 one (Cocky Curlew) and staffed JLT in the day. One idea I liked was the program patrol made a cage and placed the program totem (which was the ASM's WB totem)inside the cage and buried it in Brownsea Field. They then did a big deal of unburying it and presetning it back to him for the next patrol. I know the diggin is not very LNT, but maybe lashing a cage together with the WB critter inside, and wrap the beads around it like it was a present may be an idea. -

one thing I just noticed on the latest editions of the from: they now include a body fat percentage IF you are under 295 pounds. Apparently the Max weight, even if you are under the 25 % body fat for men, 31% for women, is still 295. I guess the 6'10" 300+ pound Marine with a perfect PFT scote I've heard about still cannot do High adventure activities, despite a tour or two in A'stan. EDITED: at least national has listened to some of us and add the body fat % to the form.(This message has been edited by Eagle92) -

Also One reason I read somewhere for the new form was so that 1 form could be used for all activities. however according to this from the FAQ, there si stuill multiple forms the BSA uses,d espite the attempt to get to one form fits all. Q. Why cant I use the Annual Health and Medical Record for participation at the high-adventure bases? A. The high-adventure bases have very specific activities that are unique to each of them. They each provided valuable input to position the Annual Health and Medical Record for use in the future. YOU are responsible to Be Prepared for your high-adventure trek and understand and follow all high-adventure base rules, procedures, and guidelines. -

I know some folks love the new physicals, but I am not one of them. I and others foresaw the confusion that the H/W chart and 30 minute guidelines would cause. Heck in some places the 30 minute rule would prevent units form having meetings if their leaders didn't meat H/W guidelines. And yep there were folks who said that docs would not approve folks underweight. Also I know one young man who doesn't meet the lowest height listed, but is in very good shape Also although I have not met anyone with the problem described below yet, probably will in 2 weeks, but I've been told in the districts in my council that have Marines stationed in them, there are a few leaders who are "Overweight" by the H/W guidelines, but can score a perfect PT score. Yeah I am going to tell a leader just back from combat ops in A'stan that they are "overweight" RIGHT!!!! And according to the form or the FAQ national posted; OA Ordeals fall under the section B being required. Sorry for the rant -
the key to CS is that there is flexibility to the program. With CS, b/c there is both age and grade factors, there is no "one size fits all"

I am not a physician, nor do I play one on TV, But I do work around a lot of them and their research for them IMHO physicians will only listen to other physicians. My recommendation is the follwoing. #1 get the contact info for the council physician. Every council that operates a CSDC, CS Res. Camp, and BS summer camp MUST have one. #2 Talk to talk the original physician to get more details, i.e. is the HW guidelines the sole concern or are there others.. #3 Give the contact info for the Council Physician to the family physician so that he can have a consult. #4 if no consult, contact Council Physician. -
Down time activites with Tiger Cubs

Somethings I've seen done and plan on doing. Compass course and/or GPS called it a treasure hunt, had a "chest" of juice as the last point LNT work, including making posters Kickball Pinecone bird feeders. Ultimate -
First Aid as it was also required for First Class in my day. Had an excellent MBC and I am so glad I followed my SM's advcie to wait until summer camp and take it with the MBC that he strongly recommended. Put real life outdoor scenarios to what we learned. Funnest was Wilderness Survival. But I didn't earn it as part of a normal summer camp class or with a MBC. The camp created a high adventure program that took us in the backcountry for the week. part of the program was wilderness survival, and I had a blast that week. Best week of camp I ever had as a camper.

I have mixed emotions on parents pushing. One one hand, I have seen what everyone else has seen: scouts who didn't want to be there and scouts who had a fun thing turn into a prerequisite for a driver's license or car. heck I had one scout with 62 MBs, that's right 62 MBs, decide he didn't want to do the service project to get eagle, to spite his dad. All b/c dad said get Eagle or no license and car. On the other hand, I know an Eagle who had to get a little push from his SM and parents to finish up his last MB before his 18th Bday. He procrastinated for 5 years as a Life before earnign his PM MB 5 days before the deadline. I am so glad everyone gave me that little puch at the end.

grant you there are lots of different jurisdictions and laws vary , but don't we have a judge onthe forums who culd give us some insight?

Forgot to add, in both cases no arrests were made.

If memory serves, and unfortunately it's a little better in this area than most, ALL leaders removed from scouting, whether they were arrested or accused, are placed in this record. That's one reason I've read that the files will only be released if subpeoned: the subpeona protects the BSA from libel or slander lawsuits. For example, say you got a scout that was caught after hours outside the campsite by a leader. Scout lies and says leader made a pass and leader get removed from scouting. Or as happened at another scout shop while I was for supply. Long time volunteer scouter works PT as a salesclerk. During RU season employee/volunteer shows new Cub how to roll up the necker and places it on him, and puts on the slide. Mom freaks out, claims inappropriate touching, and employee/volunteer not only loses PT job, but gets removed from scouting, despite being in a roomful of other adults (if you have you ever entered a scout shop during RU season, youknow how crazy it is with the folks shopping).

I've used doublestick tape. If I can find my Archiving and Museum books, I may be able to find a better way and post here. Be advised those books may be in my attic and take some time to find.

Unfortanetly I have seen what a messy divorce can do to a unit, as well as a district if district folks are involved. NOT PRETTY. And yes the local council was dragged into it too. Again NOT PRETTY.

I know the Germans use large tents that look like teepees and everyone in the patrol sleeps, cooks, and eats in them. Gotta be careful though. One patrol I saw burnt their tent while cooking, and everyone had to sleep under the stars.

I personally like name tags. I have a large pack and I am still learning names. I have five of the suckers. And I do wear them. But I also wear jambo insignia, so if I pretty much need to wear it, otherwise the Jambo pacth would look funny, Personally I would only embroider the Boy Scout of America, and wear a name tag you can take on and off.

Since this thread is resurrected, I'm going to do my Kudu impersonation and say look at the 3rd ed. of the SMHB as it does have a good troop level training that may need to be modified slightly for today. As for NYLT, etc. Haven't staffed it, but been through BA22 and staffed JLT, both of which were good courses. Also I know that someone did a district level TLT when I was a youth, with all staff being BA22 graduates. Now I will admit, I did not go through a formal training with the SM, my trainign was via the SPL and the Leadership Corps of the troop. SM didn't get involved unless a safety issue, or disciplinary issue, and usualy it was b/c the SPL asked for help.

Back in the day, when we were invested in my troop, we received out troop totem, troop necker, and....TROOP WOOGLE (caps for the TA DAH effect, not shouting). We did't use 550 cord, but vinyl clothesline. So go ahead and teach the scout how to tie the Turk's Head.

LOL! You had me until I checked the thread that this story came from: April Fools Pranks.

I think it was last year that one of the major patch collecting sites stated that lodge names were going to be replaced by council names, since national no longer uses lodge numbers. Lots of upset scouters.

Yep the concept of summer camp changed since your time. I know when I went to CS dad and lad in 83 at the local camp, we had to cook and eat outside. i remember seeing the L frame packs and small garbage cans lashed to them that was used by the patrols to pick up their supplies for cooking that day. By the time I went to camp, they had a dining hall. I have mixed emotions on summer camps and MBs. One hand I see it as an excellent opportunity to work on and possibly earn the MBs. Let's face it you are in a scouting environement 24/7 that week, and I can see someone earning a few MBs and getting partials in others. BUT it is camp, and you do need to have fun. You need to schedule down time to go swimming, boating, rifle range, or climbing tower for free time. IMHO the push to turn summer camp into "BS summer school" came about b/c of the helicopter pareents who push their sons. and that attitude puts pressure on leaders who in turn pressure the CD and PD of camps.
