  1. Even before my current "seasoning," a walking stick was useful for encounters with aggressive dogs, and other critters.
  2. Once, one might have said "Not a Boy Scout troop," but given the death of "Boy Scouting" in BSA and constant emphasis on the troop for years and years, it is perhaps more accurate to say something else. "It's a "BSA troop"?
  3. chorus: "That's the way we do in Utah, Arizona and Nevada California and Hawaii, Out west in Region Twelve.." I suppose anyone can be offended by about anything. 😗
  4. Good points. And so the leaders (i.e. Scouts elected to lead) decided to remove the "sliders" from each tent rope and scheduled tent-pitching amd tarp-pitching contests as "gathering time activities."
  5. We made expendient sheaths with plastic sheeting and tape. Some use cardboard and tape.
  6. Was the CofE truly the only religious denomination in the UK in 1907?
  7. YPT was also expressly created to protect BSA, LCs, COs, and adults from clams of abuse.
  8. A couple of years ago. Farthest North Council prevailed before The Sureme Court of the State of Alaska on the issue of whether the Board of The GSUSA could, without formal approval of the National Council of GSUSA, raise dues. FARTHEST NORTH GIRL SCOUT COUNCIL v. GIRL SCOUTS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, Supreme Court of Alaska case No. S-17144, September 13, 2019 ) 454 P. 3d 974 (20189) Payback?
  9. I have been copying the Unit leader to prevent "one-on-one" communication. A parent is now required?
  10. Fourth in line for Presidential succession in tyhe 1970's was Unted States Senator who had been Exaulted Cyclops (leader) of a chapter of the KKK whch he had started and who fillibustered against the 1964 Civil Rights Act and strongly opposed the 1965 Voting Rights Act. “I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side. Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.” In his final years, he said he regreted his associain with the KKK. Things change.
  11. "Scout Wetspers" We learned that verse, but it had no real meaning in Southern California in Summer.
  12. I have always electected to wear the uniform in accordance with BSA rules, to the extent that they are coherent. Even the rule that official BSA "hat pins" may not be worn on the official BSA hat or cap. In training, I have advocated to Scouts and adults that they set a good example by following the rules. I do not "call out" adults who ignore the uniforming rules because they may simply be unaware of the rules and because we have been increasingly short of adult resources over my fifty-three years in the program. I have "solved" the absurd Eagle Mentor Pin problem by buying, second-hand, an official BSA blazer for Courts of Honor.
