    • To be honest, I recall being very motivated to earn merit badges as a young scout. I flipped through the camp handbook every winter to plan my "perfect" summer camp where I would earn 4 new merit badges. I would have turned down a high adventure outing for the opportunity to earn one more merit badge. I don't think the focus on advancement is a bad thing, provided each merit badge is taught correctly and gives the camper a meaningful experience. I take issue with all of the non-outdoor merit badges taught at summer camp these days - that just continues the "School 2" trend we've lamented about in other threads (how many camps now have a STEM Center?) Ideally, camps should offer outdoor merit badges that would be challenging for a troop to offer on their own (shooting sports, aquatics, etc.). Even if kids are "overscheduled" at summer camp, they are still having unique outdoor adventures.
    • Local camp runs six MB periods during the day, and an evening period on two different nights.  That's 8 badges... and for many of the "academic" ones, you can bring your "workbook" filled out to one of the instructors (not a counselor, btw), and be given the badge.
    • "Heck, you can probably earn be given one or more Citizen MBs just while at camp if the scout does some self-study before camp." There, fixed that for you
    • Found it https://shacbsa.org/coastal-plains-camporee  Looks like Plan A was a scout-run, patrol competition weekend at Camp Brosig. 👍 Details Every troop must send a representative to the Roundtable to help plan the camp-o-ree. Every troop needs run a part of the camp-o-ree (e.g., competition, facilities). This year’s camp-o-ree promises to challenge the youth leadership, as well as stretching everyone else’s comfort zones. These events cannot happen without each Scout’s competitive spirit and participation. • Another recent Camporee with a severe turn in the weather - sustained winds of 20–25 mph, gusts reaching 45 mph, and a tornado watch. The adults quickly came up with a Plan B  which they called a "Camporee Audible". "Due to weather concerns, the 2025 District Camporee (TX) scheduled for the weekend of April 4 was adjusted at the last minute. Rather than cancel, Troop 1880 (Richmond) and Troop 941 (Fulshear) worked together to hold a one-day merit badge event on Saturday, April 5. The event resulted in 46 merit badges earned by Scouts in areas such as Chess, Coin Collecting, Entrepreneurship, and Traffic Safety." I don't know what the original Camporee program was.
