24 Firearms Stolen from Camp Salmon Scout Reservation (MS)

A dozen guns stolen from a Boy Scout camp in Hancock County are missing following a burglary that landed two men in jail. 

Hancock County Chief Deputy Glenn Grannan says scout leaders reported 24 guns stolen from Camp Salmon Scout Reservation on V Bar Road after the cafeteria and shop at the camp were burglarized Aug. 5. A truck was also stolen from the camp.

Jeremy Perkins, 30, and Dameon Cuevas, 34, - both of the Kiln - were arrested Aug. 11. Each faces two counts of commercial burglary, and one count of probation violation in connection with the break-in.

Half of the missing guns were discovered in the woods on property in the Kiln. Grannan says the guns that remain missing include shotguns and rifles used to teach scouts about proper gun use and safety. The stolen truck was found in Pearl River County. 

A third person is expected to be charged with possession of stolen property in the theft of the truck.

Perkins is being held on $10,000 bond. Bond for Cuevas has been set at $15,000.

They also got a bunch of tools used for maintenence as well. The Old Ranger's House (OHR and in one article called a house) was converted into a workshop/storage area.

 

Sadly that's the camp I grew up at, Salmen Scout Reservation's Camp V-Bar.

Update:

Judge Lisa Dodson sentenced Jeremy Perkins to 24 years in prison and suspended 12 years, ordering 12 years to serve followed by 12 years of probation, District Attorney Joel Smith said in a news release.

Dodson also fined Perkins $2,000 and ordered $3,500 in restitution to the Boy Scout camp for damages.

Daemon Cuevas pleaded guilty to the burglaries in June. He is serving four years for the burglaries plus a 15-year prison term for a meth-manufacturing conviction, also in Hancock County, the state prison website shows. He had been on probation for the meth conviction but his probation was revoked.

Cuevas, 34, received the same fine and restitution order as Perkins. 

More legal details, such as Perkins had been on probation for a previous firearms conviction.

I would think an additional conviction while on probation would prevent any future sentence probation.
