Anyone else get an email from a lawroom.com for online training?

Recommended Posts

I am wondering if this some kind of scam or something.  I am not an employee of the council.  I am a very active volunteer.

Seems like I would have seen an email about this from the council letting people know they need to take this training.  I wonder if it stems from the whole transgender issue?   I did a quick google of lawroom.com and it appears to be a HR/sexual harassment/discrimination training place.

Here is the email.  I have omitted my personal information.

BSA wants their employees to take training on checkpoint data security and privacy? Sounds fishy to me, if they mean BSA as in Boy Scouts. Now BSA Data Solutions? That's another story.

The course title is about a security system for computer networks call Checkpoint. Highly unlikely you'd be asked to take that. Highly unlikely anyone at Council or national would take that unless they are a network or systems engineer.

It does look strange, especially since it mentions employees and you are not an employee, and it is coming from a private company rather than BSA national or council.  If it were me, I would call council and tell them about this.

Just reached out to my council about, as far as they can tell it's legitimate. My council had already reached out to national about it.

Maybe its the lawyer in me, but especially in these times of online fraud running rampant, I don't think I would find "as far as they can tell" very comforting. :)

Thank you for the replies. I went to roundtable last night and asked our DE.   He said to ignore it, it was meant for actual council employees and was sent out in error.  I apparently was not the only one to have gotten it as others were confused as well.  ;)

Well, that makes more sense, anyway.  Among other things, sending an email to an employee requiring that they take a 15-25 minute online training module sometime in the next 14 days is entirely reasonable.  Sending the same to a volunteer is, generally, not.  :)

This seems to be standard training for a number of companies and institutions.
