Sea Scout Forums and stuffs

Recommended Posts

I am seeing a lot of internet stuff for boy scouts and cub scouts, but I am not seeing anything for Sea Scouts. So, my question is, does anybody know if there are Sea Scout forums, podcasts, anything more that the couple facebook groups and the venturing area here?

What are Sea Scouts? JUST JOKING. Problem is Sea Scouts are one of the least understood and underutilized programs. Also some of us have had bad expereinces where the ship is more of a babysitting service for CO.

But yep these exist and people can simply google them.

go to www.seascout.org

on this you will find links to some Sea Scout discussion lists.

Most of these are not very active

I would see if your local Flotilla has a web page.

They usually have some type of forum and I found these to be more active.

I agree with you Kahuna, sadly the last two sea scout ships(power boats)in our council announced last night at RT that they were shutting down due to the tough economic times, the expense of maintaining the boats and the fuel costs. One group is going to reorganize as a venturing crew with emphasis on small sailboats and kayaking, but I it looks like the days of traditional sea scouting is over in our council. The skippers of both ships were going to step down in June, both of whom were avid seamen and Navy veterans. We are going to miss them and their sea scouts at our council and district functions.

Last time I looked the "discussion lists" on seascout.org hadn't been added to in a couple months.

"I would see if your local Flotilla has a web page."

I didn't even know we had a flotilla until you mentioned it.

BadenP,

They can still be a Sea Scout Ship. My old ship used small sailboats, and one sea scout ship I worked with in the UK, 4th Deal (Sea Scout), used kayaks exclusively.

"You are very right Eagle 92 but they decided to go less formal, no uniforms or ranks, and just sail/kayak for the fun of it."

That doesn't sound much different than what some of the Sea Scout ships in my area do.
