Is USSCOUTS.ORG Dead?

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the info! I did a search on "USSCOUTS" thinking that it would have been discussed, but I couldn't find anything.

I like the forums here, and I intend to "hang around" and learn a lot from the participants. USSCOUTS is a good reference site, too, and a lot of the NetCompass links point to locations there.

Hope they get back up and running again soon.

Mike

Just a follow-up on this server crash issue.

I just talked to David Tracewell who is the administor of the cubmaster.org, macscouter.org, and the usscouts.org sites. Parent company is U.S. Scouting Service Project, Inc in Kansas City, MO. Server crashed three weeks ago and they just got in the new server today and it will be about two to three more weeks before all the data can be moved over to get the sites back up. They normally get 3 million hits a month on their sites and it their server wasn't large enough to handle the volume. But being a non-profit organization it took the a while to put together the $7,000 to replace the damaged server.

I do find this tool to be a good resource but not enough data is available in putting together materials for a local Pack Meeting at times.

FYI side note, if you ever need to know who the administrator is of a website this is a good resource also.

Thanks for the info.

I had been on USSCOUTS in early Jan. and since then I've been trying to get on it several times over the last few weeks. I was hoping that it hadn't gone belly up.

I just found this site (via this thread) and I like what I see so far. I'll definitely be exploring it further.

I just received an email from Michael Bowman who is rebuilding the server. They will be working this week to get it active again. In the interim, I updated my web links to use archived copies from the Wayback Machine at: http://www.archive.org/web/web.php

Example: http://web.archive.org/web/20031203220838/www.usscouts.org/advance/cubscout/webelos.html

The first load is slower. But it does work.
