Does Sea Base's Sailing Adventure qualify as a non-motorized trip on the water of at least 4 hours or 5 miles? I know they do a lot of motoring around, but does the time under sail qualify for this requirement? -
@Armymutt, the institutional knowledge I saw lost was more due to older scouts not going on campouts and saying something like, "no, that's a dumb skit, let's try something else." I used to tell the older scouts they were expected to teach the younger scouts not only skills but things like character, attitude and even how to have fun at a camporee. That ended when a SM, whose own son didn't want to go camping, decided to let that idea go. But that brings up a whole other can of worms because acting like an eagle scout at most scouting events is not a requirement for becoming an eagle scout. As for good skits having a punch line, years and years ago we had some meetings on what makes a good skit and the patrols had to come up with new skits. It at least got the scouts thinking about it. Their skits weren't great but the quality of the skits at campouts got better. Make it fun, if you can find youtube videos of good skits that could help.

We always called this one "purple pancakes" as the scene was a chef preparing purple pancakes.

That stat has been around for decades. It is the reason why newspapers have the 5th grade reading levels since at least the 1980s. If you really want to see the decline of writing, read diaries from the 1800s and earlier. Some of the 8th grade drop outs write more complex and with more vocabulary than college grads today.
