Re: Committee Meetings

My Troop Committee meets on a separate night other than our Scout
meeting night. This assures our Charter Organization that proper adult
supervision is present, the Scout's parents that careful discipline is
maintained during the meetings, and the Scouts that we will "deliver the
promise" of Scouting. We have 50-some Scouts on our roster, of which
approximately thirty-five attend on meeting night. Since boys seem to
have a natural-born aversion to following boy leader's instructions, we
adults must be there to back up the SPL (or PL) as necessary. Yes, we
are a boy-run Troop, but because they are boys they will make mistakes.
We adults must be present to do on-the-spot damage control and to make
sure that the error becomes an object lesson in failed leadership so
that the Scouts learn from the mistake.
I heartily recommend that you switch your Committee meetings to another
night.
YiS,
Drew
