Costs for World Jamboree contingents are set by the Regions/National
Office, not by Councils. All troops are organized through the areas of
each region. The variations in cost between Regions are based on the
tours selected by the particular region for their contingent. Explorer
Posts (one per region) are composed of Explorers from throughout the
particular region, as opposed to the area organization used for troops.
Usually there are also costs associated with travel to the "departure"
city or cities that are in addition to the base fee. For example, Scouts
living in area 5 of Western Region might have to fly from Denver to Los
Angeles as a Departure City to board the chartered aircraft which takes
the Regional Contingent to the Jamboree (which was the itinerary for the
95 WSJ in Holland). Hence, the cost for the charter flight from the
departure city to the jamboree is included in the base fee; however the
cost for travel to the departure city is in addition to the base fee. Our
costs per person were only about $160 round trip for travel to Los
Angeles.
Councils facilitate the recruitment of Scouts/Explorers to attend,
and approve applications for leadership and staff positions, but do not
organize or coordinate the world jamboree contingent troops.
