Bruce and Michele:
Thank you for the added background on the Atheist/Eagle suit. Boy has
this been enlightening!

Haeusers:
Great information on how to tackle these Webelos Years.

Now for a couple questions/comments of my own. For one, I've been a
leader now for this my fourth year. It's all been in Cubs solely.
Everyone keeps talking about not bringing too much BS Patrol duties into
our Web Dens etc. Well, I know nothing about what BSA, the way the troops
are fun, what patrol leaders do. Do I need to buy a book? I don't plan
to move up with my boys. I truly want them to cut the purse strings,
especially my son, and move on to Scouts without me. Any advice as to
what I need to read to know how to prepare them even a little?

I'm still concerned about getting my boys Activity Badges for Webelos in
even a remotely timely manner. As great as my parents are, they don't
continue the interest at home. And my concern about not having enough Den
meetings is scary for me. This month I have 2 Den Meetings and the Pack
Meeting. We meet for 1 hour on Thursday nights at a local church. If my
meetings run over, even a few minutes I have people standing waiting for
me irritated that I'm not done cause they want to close up and go home.
(i do not have a key) In December there will be only 1 den meeting, the
second one will be spent neighborhood carolling and the third Thursday for
the Pack Meeting, again because of holidays. I'm also concerned about
Jan, Feb, March. The beginning of this year we had very little snow and I
don't believe we missed a single Den Meeting. But the year before we had
the Pack meeting in Jan, the B&G in February and I think we got one Den
meeting in March because of the snow. We had about 5 feet in 2 or 3 huge
storms. They're predicting the same for this winter.

*How* do I get these kids moving on this stuff at home? Even my own son,
as motivated as he is, has to have a push to do his work. I have to
remind him continually that if he wants that Fitness Pin, which is
required for that Webelos Badge, he has to do his nightly exercises.
(we're only 5 nights away from the 30 days now). When I was at Pow-Wow
two weeks ago I was shocked talking to other Webelos Leaders who said
their boys already had 2-3 pins. I feel like I'm failing! Their Packs
apparently meet during the summer and they also do not have outings on Den
Meeting nights. <sigh>

Any words of wisdom from out there???
