SPORTS & ACAD. LETTER

AL DEBENEDETTO (alcjjj@CLASSIC.MSN.COM)

Hi Y'All,

Okay. Last month I posted a question in regards to receiving more than one
Sports or Academics Letter. Most of you said that a Scout can only receive
one Sports Letter ( "S" ) and one Academics Letter ( "A" ) . They can earn
more than one but only received one actual letter, so if a scout earned his
letter in Soccer he receives his first letter ("S"), any letters he earns
after that, he does not actually get another letter. (At least that is how I
understood most of you ) I was confused. Where is the incentive to do the
requirements of earning another letter by involving an adult to earn his/her
pin if the Scout only receives one letter. I asked in my Pack and was told
the same as the list. I thought if any of my Scouts does earn a second
letter, I would present him with a computer generated certificate
acknowledging his accomplishment. Well, this Saturday (11/1) I attended a Pow
Wow and questioned the instructor of the Sports & Academics Class. He held
up his son's red vest which held three Sports letters and numerous pins
earned. I told him I had been told to only present the Scout with only one
letter and he agreed with me that there would be no incentive for the Scout to
earn other letters. The Leader Guide doesn't say which is correct. Okay, any
comments out there?
