Re: Canoeing in Canada

Calvin,
I would highly recommend the Boundry Waters Canoe Area/Quetico Provincial
Park using either the BSA Charles Sommers Canoe Base or a private outfitter.
I understand the BSA outfitting includes a guide although I used a private
outfitter without a guide.

This past August, I spent 6 days in the BWCA with group of 6. The experience
was fantastic. We covered 50 miles and camped at 5 different sites. We
carried canoes and equipment 956 rods (2.9 miles) over 19 portages. We
overcame one day's canoeing into headwinds followed by a light afternoon and
evening rain. For most of the trip it was sunny and the daily temps were
around 80 with 60 degree nights. We saw Moose and Eagles (no Bears), fished
with a little luck, went swimming, and generally enjoyed the outdoors. For
most of the trip we saw very few other groups, and most of the BWCA
prohibits motors - only canoes are allowed.

We all would like to go back again, but on a less rigorous schedule to allow
time for a side trip or two and some hiking. YiS
